Cost of Re-gearing?

Just curious to see how much it cost re-gear. I've never really considered it, but now I'm adding 37inch Mud terrain tires and a 6inch lift, and don't want to be outrun by a schoolbus full of kids.

I currently have the stock 3.73 set up and want to go up to 4.56's

let me know if you have any info as I'm not a good searcher

Brandon

That is EXTREMELY expensive compared to what I have found. In my research, gearsets are around $200 for decent quality, nothing fabulous though. A master install kit should be between $70 and $100. A truck modification shop near me charges $250/axle, unless it's IFS which our front axles are. They charge $350 for IFS because they have to drop the diff. I also spoke to a transmission shop and they wanted $350/axle regardless of if they have to drop it or not.

You didn't specify what rearend you have. I am basing all of these prices on an 8.8 as that is what I have. If you have the larger one prices will probably go up on the gearset and install kit, but the labor should stay the same.

Go to accuautoparts.com. They have very competitive prices. You should also call Randy's Ring and Pinion 1-800-347-1188 (I have them on speed dial lol). Randy's has very good customer service and they are willing to answer ANY questions you may have, even if you haven't purchased anything from them. They are very knowledgeable.

If you can find a decent shop and don't feel you need to buy the most expensive gears, I think it's entirely possible to have the whole job done for $1200. Possibly even $1000 if you really look into ALL the options.

$1,000 for everthing is about the max you should pay, but I'd say no less than $750.

A couple months ago I was quoted $200 per set of Factory gears and $350 per set for aftermarket. Another $100 per differential for install parts if they can't reuse the original (depending on mileage). Labor was $300 per differential.

This is true, I've been quoted $600 - $800 for Precision gears... and I only have to do one axle!
