Pleade diagnose this noise

1999 F250 4x4 5.4l light duty w/ 176,000 miles. A light muffeled low pitch rubbing/grinding noise (no squeaks) in the left real wheel area at speeds around 40-50 mph that comes and goes. Also, at any speed over rough bumps in the road this noise will appear then it goes away in about 5 seconds after I am back on smooth pavement. The breaks are ok. Could this be a bearing? Any help appreciated.

could be wheel bearings or c/v joints
