Tires squeal when turning

Hi,

I'm new to the forums and I thought maybe you guys could help me out. I have a '97 4x4 lariat with a 5.4 engine. When I make a turn either left or right the tires squeal. It's not a sharp turn or fast but it always does it. It has regular tires and i'm not sure what it could be.

Welcome to the forum! There are a couple things that could be going on. First are you sure that you are not in 4x4. Is the truck bucking while going around a corner? If the 4x4 is not disengauging this could be the source. The more likely cause is the rear diff. Did you buy the truck new or used? Has it always done or just start recently? Chances are if it is all stock it is a LS diff. that needs servicing. The friction modifier has probably worn out and the clutches are grabbing. Change the fluid with the recomened stuff in the manual and it will probably take care of it. You can check the sticker in the door jam and if it has a letter and a number under the axle code (eg.H9) it is a LS diff. Otherwise if you bought it used and it has always done it, I'd say you may have a locker in the rear diff.

Hope that helps!

Is it the front or rear tires squeling? If it is the front, then I would have the alignment checked. If it is the rear then what they said.

Have your upper and lower ball joints checked, sounds like it could be those.

Thanks wvtrucker
I went in to my mechanic to add the oil and it took care of the problem.
