Squeek in steering?

I just purchased a '97 F150 SuperCab 4x4. It makes a squeeking noise when I steer back and forth even while sitting still. It only has grease zerks on the idler arm from what I could see. The noise was not coming from the gearbox. It is louder than the motor and I'dlike to fix it. Anyone have this problem? thanks.

I had the same problem with a 96 Lariat.
It was the tie rod ends which did not have grease fittings.

Most likely the pitman. Easy to replace yourself. Takes about 15 minutes and cost @ $40.00 for the arm, and $15.00 for the puller. It was well worth the money on my 97 F150 Lariat.

My 97 has been making the same sounds for a year now. I'm finally going to replace the ball joints today.

I have the exact same issue with my '97 - reference :

I've got good feedback. Good luck and let me know what your root cause was!

Squeaky steering

Just had the same problem with my 97 F150 (126,000 miles).
All I had to do is grease the pitman arm with a needle type grease
pin. It works very well in greasing tie rod ends and any steering joint that doesn't have a grease fitting. Just insert it in the rubber boot and pump the grease in like normal> Boot more or less seals itself again. Bought my grease pin at local hardware store for $3.00. Well worth the price. Alot cheaper than replacing parts>

My pittman arm was squealing when I would turn the wheel. I checked it for play by having my wife turn the wheel while I checked for play. It didn't have any play so I used the needle adapter and fill the boot full of grease. After two days of driving it does not squeal any more. I also greased everything else that had a boot but no grease fitting.

I have the same damn noise and it's getting embarrassing. What is this needle thing you guys are talking about? Is it something that attaches to a grease gun? Please let me know so I can go get it. Where and what should I be greasing?

The noise is driving me crazy.
