Cruise control not working

I was wondering if there is a part that commonly fails in the cruise control system.

Checked fuses in truck and under hood. All seems well.

Turn cruise on at wheel, push "on" to engage, "cruise" light comes on in instrument cluster but it never does actually engage at all.

I thought I would ask if there is a simple fix of a common problem before I took in for service.

Thankyou.

A search on cruise control produced this posting from JMC on the diagnostic procedure for the cruise control system

Run through the self test process, and see if the system is intact.

If you have problems with the horn and airbag light it could be the clockspring.

Clockspring
