As far as power is concerned, what's wrong with the SOHC 4.0 V6?

the only complaint i had about my ranger was cab space, but as far as strength and power shoot that was one tuff mule. an it just had the 3.0. i hauled many a loads of hay, wood(some split and some whole logs) never once did that truck let me down. i just needed more room. and i got a good deal on an '01 f150 4x4 larait package so i traded.

My sister had a 96 Splash 4x2 with a 3.0 auto - it was a great little truck till my nephew put a lift, huge tires, and a Slowmaster on it. That turned it into a gas sucking dog.

mileage sucks sometimes. other than that, 4.0 is a very capable motor. my bros ranger would lay posi with 33" AT tires no problem. 4.0 explorer pulls a 21ft boat with full cuddy really well.

I dont think it would have the power for a crew cab. My last truck was an 04 ranger FX4 Level II witha 4.0 v6 which was great but they need more power to compete with Toyota.
It is pretty much the same truck as we have in the US but they have a crew cab down there, wheras we have the Sport Trac up here. As I recall they also have a turbo diesel availble in the Mexican trucks. Until recently the only engine you could get in the Sport Trac was the 4.0, I bet it would handle a crew cab just fine.

Really for what the intent of a small truck is, the 207hp 4.0 is plenty, that is more snort than most 302's had in F-150's for a long while. Even the 160hp OHC was pretty spunky in a Ranger.

Yeah, but the Mexican version (and maybe a few other countries as well) is the only place you can get a crew cab version of the Ranger sold in the US, they have a couple other trucks floating around made by other companies they call a Ford Ranger as well.
