R.I.P Ford Ranger
What a shame about the Ranger, if all is true. Personally, I like them better now than ever, especially with the teflon wheels and even the polished or chrome ones of the same design. I'm not as crazy about the grille as I was when they had the honeycomb back in 2000-2003 somewhere in there.
Ford really sucks at knowing the market. Instead of keeping cars in segments, they eliminate them and blame poor sales. Others, like Chrysler, are able to outsell everyone combined with their mini-van. The only mini-vans left are Chrysler and a bunch of fugly jap vans. I'm sorry, but Ford has always had one of the best looking vans if nothing else in my opinion. Even the Ranger is a great truck and sooooooo much nicer looking than all others. Whatever, take the easy way out instead of taking buyers away from other trucks, cars and vans.
Oh, Mr. Ford, if you're listening, a small V-8 in a Ranger might not hurt sales. At least a more ballzy V-6.

Update #1: 11-19-07 06:50 PT
Wes Sherwood, Ford's manager of truck communications, tells PickupTruck.com that reports of the Ranger's death are a bit premature.
"We only announced that the plant will now be closed in 2009 instead of 2008 as previously planned. We are studying the compact truck market and will announce plans closer to the plant closing," says Mr. Sherwood.

We still have our 1993 Ranger XLT Scab, and it hardly looks old, which can be good or bad considering it's almost 2008. Great truck though!
In reality, the fuel economy difference and sales prices isn't enough to make most people choose a small truck over a full size. GM from what I understand is also considering ending their small truck program as well.

I had a 2002 Ranger Edge and I loved it 2wd with 4wd looks wasn't to awful bad on gas they really need to kill the sporttrac and do a ranger crewcab then you could have a decent bed and haul at least 4 with some comfort.
+2 on a small diesel or ballsy v6

They should find a way to import this... http://www.ford.com.ph/servlet/Conte...Page&c=DFYPage

Ford sells the exact same Vehicle here in Germany and I took a test drive when they just came out with it. The 2.5 TD engine is pretty nice and the interior also, but the Truck itself looks absolutelly plain and ugly. Before I bought my F150 I was waiting for Ford to introduce a new Ranger (maybe like a little F150) which fits better in the parking lots over here
. Got tired of waiting.

I don't understand why Ford can't build one body style of truck and give the option of engines.
the old 300 six in a F-100 302 in a F 150 had were three times the truck of the Ranger and get roughly the same milage.

I like the 4.2 5sp combo in the pre 04 F-150, owned one, never should have tradded it in ( on anothier F-150 )

Mine is fun to dink around with, the older ones are cheap fun to modify into just about whatever you want (offroad buggy to drag truck and everything in the middle). Mine is nice in that it can manouver into tight places without much of a problem. I do prefer my F-150 for a dd because of the room, but the Ranger is just plain fun to drive.
I have heard the F-100 rumor, I have also heard they are going to pull out of the market completly. Really the way things are going I would prefer them to kill off the Ranger altogether, chances are the next truck will be based off of the Explorer with IRS, I would rather the Ranger just die as a truck.

with the talk of the Explorer going to D3 or similar car basis platform, I'd rather they just kill it.

This is what ford needs to release in the states. I am currently in Chuhuahua Mexico on buisness and I see tons of these running around, Even the police here use them. My only suggestion would be for a bigger motor for the crew cab version. Maybe the 4.6 or even a smaller v8, cause it appears from the ford mexico website they only offer a 2.3 liter I4 engine. I dont think it would have the power for a crew cab. My last truck was an 04 ranger FX4 Level II witha 4.0 v6 which was great but they need more power to compete with Toyota.
