You may try PM'ing Quintin to ask if he'd stop back by in this thread. In case you didn't know, Quintin is a Ford mechanic and has helped hundreds (if not thousands) with his posts on this thread.

When I have a real specific question, he's one of my first stops along the way for information -- and he's never let me down because he KNOWS HIS STUFF.

G'luck, Storm! I wish you the best on this... my wife is in a 2004 so, it's always good to learn about potential problems that we could have along the way.

Thanks RockPick. The noise can really drive you nuts in the summer.

The expansion valve is in the left rear corner of the vehicle, attached to the auxillary A/C unit's evaporator. The system has to be evacuated/discharged before the valve can be replaced.

Thank you very much Quintin. We have an extended warranty, so I'll have to take it in. Of course, it has to be doing it or else they won't fix it so I'll have to wait until it gets a little warmer and we're using the A/C.

CANES676400- If I remember, I'll try to post a cost for the repair if no one else can answer your question. It may be a while though. Our mountaineer has been doing this since we got it in 2006. So far, the entire A/C system works fine....just a little noisy sometimes.
