Buddies 2000 F150 Goes up in flames?
My buddies 4x4 2000 F150, 90,000 miles, went up in flames in the middle of the night. The truck was parked at 10:00, then went up at 2:30 AM. Fire department said electrical fire - it melted the entire hood and part of the block!
I was wondering - is anyone aware of if this happened with other Fords, and more importantly - have they addressed for the 2004 model if something showed up? Insurance agent claimed that USAA called this a known issue with Ford trucks and it the fault was in cruise control - but they were way sketchy on details.
Don't flame this - I love my 2004 Ford, so I'm damned curious how this could happen and make sure it can't happen to my truck - and another friends 1996. To say it was freakin' strange sitting there looking at this burned out Ford in the driveway that spontaneously combusted was an understatement - luckily was confined to firewall forward.

Thanks - ran a google after posting, figured this site might have some more info but didn't realize there was a recent thread on this subject. Info still seems sketchy though, and Ford is definitely being quiet on this from what I found. I wouldn't think a truck could go up like that - those engines are packed tight, and after the fire all that was left was a partly melted (but mostly there) block and a bunch of fused components. When his roomate woke him up, my buddy thought he was still dreaming. Figures flames went up almost 50 ft at one point - this thing got hot. Weird how this all seems to hit others/public attention at the same time his truck goes up...

Just wanted to let you know that my 2000 Ford F150 XLT supercab went into flames on Wednesday, December 29th. It was about 11:30 at night and thank God my daughter and son were out of school because my daughter heard my horn going off. I got them out of the house but not before it destroyed my truck and my garage with all it's contents. I was contacted by Department of Transportation in DC and asked to tell them what happened. Obviously I feel lucky that we made it out alive and that the rest of my house wasn't destroyed. Ford won't even return my calls but I'm sure it's because they are under investigation. We had a professional fire investigative firm come to the house and go over the truck and my garage with a fine tooth comb. We are awaiting results but preliminary indications show that the fire started at the cruise control area of the vehicle. It completely burned through the hood and firewall of the truck. There was no doubt where the fire originated. But for you FORD fans, which I have always been one of, I can assure you there is a problem and I would park my F150 outside the garage!!
