Post rear window leak (again)

Well, I had the rear slider window leak repaired at the dealer about 6 months ago. It rained pretty good last night here and I got in the truck this morning and sure enough, leaking again. I guess it's back to the dealer...

You're not alone... had mine replaced about 9 months ago and it's leaking again. Have an appointment for Monday 12/27 to have it replaced.

I've also had the rear window replaced for a second time. The installation went great except for the fact thoes MORONS put in a clear insted of a tinted window(The 2000 Version). Even if they didn't try, statisticaly they should be able to get it right 50% of the time. But these guys can't even do that.

guys, i HAD the same problem - just take the rear brake light out ( 2 phillips head screws) by the rear glass and liberally place silicone along the bottom and sides. - it worked out perfect for me - cost @ $3 ! never had a problem since..... 6 months now

My quick leak check for leaks at the Third brake light and rear sliding glass assembly
:1.shower spray head assembly to get a good high volume ,low pressur amount of water on the area.
If the water is coming down from above the headliner it is most likely the third brake light. However it could also be leaking at The trim bezel that surrounds the glass itself their are a number of pushin fasteners that are sealed with foam.
2.If the leak is at the slider or the seal or bolts that secure the glass...ect. you should be able to see.
3. for tough to find leaks:
use soapy water on the suspected leak point from the outside and with all the trim panels and hardware at the rear slider removed, the headliner dropped for access use low pressure air to make big pretty bubbles were the leak is.I hold no responsibity if you find some way to tear up your vehicle doing this, and I suggest you use your warranty but keep a good attitude and work with the service guy he may be learning to.
P.S. I do not recomend silicone for sealing leaks it causes rust when it traps water against a painted surface like your truck
Butyl for the sliding assembly
urethane for glass
caulk cord (available at Ford)for sealing around plastic and I use it to seal weatherstrip
clear paintable automotive seam sealer I use release agent to be able to run a nearly invisible seal over small cracks and holes
Hope this helps

Well had mine replaced on Monday (for the second time).

Ford is now replacing them with the 2000 model window.

I was helping during the installation of the window, my brother was installing it (he's a Ford mechanic). When we took the out old window there where six cracks in the plastic frame that hold the side panels of glass (4 cracks on one side and 2 on the other).

It looks like the new window will work much better then the original 98 window. The entire window frame is now a softer rubber material and the old one was a hard plastic.

Let's hope it's finally fixed!

Cool

My slider was also leaking. It was a ford factory aftermarket install. Dr. Glass did the install and also come back out to my house to fix the leak. Water was running along the top of the slider track. The owner of Dr. Glass told me that Ford is not sealing these sliders very well from the factory. Remove the third brake light and there are two seams (one on each side)that need resealed with butyl. My spelling may be off but it is the same substance that ford uses to seal the window to the body of the truck. Hope this helps someone out.
