Paint cracks on hood
The dealer agreed to paint my hood with no problem. I hope I don't have a problem with the rest of the truck. Gino

I'm new to this bulletin board but came today looking to share info on just this subject.
I have a 98 black F150 XLT extended cab and last month discovered the little 1/2 inch cracks in my hood and roof. The Ford Dealer where I bought the truck agreed that it was a defect and repainted the entire truck without any questions or hassle. I of course would have preferred that the original factory paint held up like it should instead of now having a body shop paint job!
According to the shop manager they sanded down to bare metal, reprimered, painted and clearcoated the entire truck. Took about 2 weeks.
Looks like a general problem that Ford is aware of.

Regarding these paint cracks, I noticed a common thread here. It seems most of you experiencing the problem have a dark (black) paint color. It could be that the paint used was defective, the robotic paint process was defective, or just simply that black paint gets hotter than hell out in the sun and oxidizes faster. Don't get me wrong, I think the black exterior looks sharp, but since I live in NW Florida, I bought a lighter exterior paint color for the sole reason that it will last much longer in the type of heat we get 9 months of the year, not to mention the interior temp of the cab in the summertime.

I just got my black F 150 back from the body shop yesterday (it's been in for 2 months!) They re-painted the entire truck and also replaced my driver side door due to the "crack." I was told by the body man that the paint cracks and cracking doors are being fixed on a "case by case basis only." They are not recalling the trucks. The only thing I noticed on my truck was that the gutter wells still looked like they were cracking. I'm not sure if it's the plastic under there or what but didn't some of you say that your gutter wells still cracked even after they were re-painted? Please let me know!
