Signal Mirror Parts

I have an '02 FX4 XLT and was wondering if I need to order the whole mirror assembly to get just the turn signal portion? Can I just order the painted outer cover/turn signal housing and mount it to my existing mirror assembly where the painted cover is now? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes.

Removal of the existing covers will be tricky. You will need to pull out the mirror itself then unclip 3 hook-type clips. (Very easily breakable) PUtting on the new covers is as simple as snap and click. (After connecting to proper wiring connectors of course)

BTW, the covers do not come painted, only unfinished.

Lean,
So are you saying that I shouldn't have to splice any wires to swap my regular power mirror covers with the signal mirror covers?? Does the 2002 XLT come with the necessary wiring harness to just swap out the old covers and plug in the new signal covers?? I read older posts that said you needed to splice wires to add just the covers to '00 and '01 mirrors...

No, you shouldn't have to splice anything.

Yes, they should. (With emphasis on "should") The only way to find out for certain is to try this.. and this.

I believe those posts were applicable to XLs. You have an XLT. The wiring harness should be there along with the correct connector.

Lean,
I appreciate the information, it looks as though I may be able to get these after all. Thanks for clarifying...

Keep us posted on how this project goes. I contacted Fordpartsonline.com last year about doing this, and they said the entire mirror assembly was required because the wiring harness isn't included with just the painted cover. Of course I would to find out they were wrong.

I have a very late build 02 XLT and the wiring that plugws into the mirror cover IS NOT THERE.

You DO have to replace the mirror assembly to get the right wiring harness. Then you'll need the covers.

I have the earlier style signal mirrors (signal in the mirror) and they are not cheap, over $200.00 each from Ford. I can't really help you with the wiring question because my Lariat came with the signal mirrors. The reason I know the price is because I managed to back one into a tree and break it so I had to buy a replacement.
