Inner Fenders

I was a bit bemused by the lack of inner fenders on my '99 XL. Won't the snow & mud & crud pack into the bed sides? It just looks a bit scary when i stick my head above the back tire and see enough space to hide both the neighbor's rottweilers.

Are there addon fenders offered by some generous after-marketers? How do you suppose nice hunks of doubled up tar-paper would work? i'm not exactly kidding...

I have the exact same complaint about my 1998 lariat 4x4!!! I went off-roading the other day and it took me hours to clean all the mud out from in those spaces back behind the back tires, and to the front of them for that matter. I know that there is obvioulsy going to be alot of cleaning involved in taking one of these trucks off-road, but it seems like 2 cheap pieces of plastic up in there would save a lot of time cleaning. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE help!!

I share both of yalls pain. I have the same problem when I go off-road. You can wash it for hours and there will still be mud up in there. I'm open for anybodys suggestions also.

I had a 95 Dodge Ram 2x4. I noticed the Dodge 4x4's had rear inner fender wells and I didn't. I asked several dealers if they would fit the 2x4 and they all said no. Finally went and spent 20 minutes under a truck measuring clearances and all looked well to me. Bought the 4x4 parts for $38.00 each and they fit perfectly. No modifications necessary. I've not seen any Ford yet with these inner fenders to keep the gunk out. I wonder if another manufacturer's part could be made to fit? I too can't stand the gunk that keeps collecting under there or the look of the bed and frame rails.

does anyone know if the expeditions have an inner fender guard in the rear? I was thinking that if they do, then chances are that they would also fit on a F-150 with little or no modifications. Let me know what y'all think.

Silly me, I hadn't thought of that. Excellent idea. Failing the Expy I bet Lincoln didn't overlook that on the Navigator. There may be hope (assuming it's not a $200 lincoln item).

That is a good idea, I'll have to look into that.

I too was disappointed to see no rear wheel well liners on my '99 150 SC. Started looking at other models and discovered 150 stylesides and 250s have liners.

Just think how much Ford saved us off of the sticker price, by eliminating the plastic inner guards..."A Better Idea"..you bet! Saw this post back in the spring when I picked up my 99 F1504x4SC...should have kept the old ones off the "79"! I'm sure the is a body shop out there that has material..it's just finding it.

Angry

Now I'm a little ticked. I just read this post and then stuck my head in the rear wheel well of my 99 250 LD -- no liners. You can see all the way from the rear bumper to the cab of the truck under there. No wonder it took me so long to clean all the dirt out after my last off road trip. I knew there was nothing blocking the bed of the truck, but I thought the front and back of the wheel well would be enclosed. Bummer.

Maybe I'll cruise the Ford lot today and check the 250 SD and the Expy too. If anyone finds a fix, please post...

Thanks,

Jim

P.S. When I was growing up, my dad had a '68 F250 that had a really cool locking compartment on the side of the truck. It was at the bottom of the truck body just in front of the wheel well (it was about twice the size of the glove box). Ford should bring these back -- it would fill in that space nicely and give us more places to store stuff. Just my 2¢

Just checked the fender wells of my truck - I have 'em. The only place they are lacking are on the front passeger side. The front drivers side has a piece of plastic to guard the remote oil filter. It keeps most of the gunk away from the bumper.

My Super Duty has heavy guage black plastic on front and rear of each rear wheel. Nothing over the top of the wheel. I bet these parts would fit a Light Duty, too.
Good Luck.

Exclamation

J-C beat me to it
I stopped by the dealer and checked all the F-series that were there. None of the 150's or 250 LD's had anything, but all 250 SD's had the two black plastic/acrylic panels in the rear wheel wells.

If I find some extra $$ in the near future (highly doubtful), I'll order some and see if they fit.

I also started looking at any Chevy's and Dodge's that were out and about today, none of them seemed to have anything in the wheel wells either. I did notice a full inner fender in the rear wheel well of a ~1992 F250 in the parking lot of Home Depot. Maybe it would fit???

I have a 99 f-150 sport. It doesn't have them. I would be real interested in getting something back there too. My dad probably would be too.
