Lightbulb Step Bars On A 2wd.

I OWN A NEW 2001 F-150 XL, AND I WANTED TO PUT SOME STEP BARS ON IT, BUT WOULD THEY LOOK GOOD ON A 2WD REG. CAB? WHAT DO Y'ALL THINK?

I also have a 2WD and considered some but in the end decided that they are not necessary with the low cab height. I thought they'd look a bit goofy on a 2WD and decided I'd spend my money somewhere else unless I got a suspension lift.

When I first got my truck I thought of doing the same but changed my mind as I figured it wouldn't look right on a 4x2.

I've got black Smittybilt step bars on mine. Truck is a black 2001 XLT sport flareside.

The bars look great and I have had several compliments on them.

I think for 2wd, go with the fibreglass steps (like Ford sells) instead of tubular.

I think the 2wd sits too low for the large tubular style.

I have an extended cab, and don't think the tubular bars look too bad on a 4X2.

LOL! I had to do a double take, I posted the exact same question about a year ago and I thought someone had dug it up. Anyway, I have a 2000 Flareside Supercab and I was concerned about the same thing. I ended up putting Steel Horse stainless steel bars on mine and I love them, even the 2wd's sit high enough to make it look right. I was more concerned about sliding across the leather all the time and wearing it out, not now, I'm able to step right into the seat with no sliding.

I have chrome tubes on my Reg cab 4X2 Flareside and they look really good and have had many compliments about the truck. The 2wd is not too low for the step bars. I plan on lowering my truck before the end of year so my tubes will be coming off but I wouldn't think twice about putting them on another 2wd truck.

It didn't matter much to me personally, but everyone under 5 foot 10 inches tall in my family has just raved at how much easier it is to get into my truck since I installed the Westin bars.

See the sig for pictures.

Well, I had factory steps on my 4x4. To me they kinda got in the way. They were ok getting in but when I go to get out they seemed to be in the way. I know everybody will say I'm gonna wear out my seat just sliding out but I figure when and if that time comes I'll but a seat cover. I like just sliding out. The steps kinda prevent me from doing that. If I had a lift kit then the steps would be ok cause I would probably use them to get out but the reg. 4x4 just does not seem high enough to me to have steps. I think they look ok but before you buy go to a Ford lot and just get the keys to one that has steps and get in a out a few times to see how you like them. Also if your in the mud any and the steps get muddy so will the back or your pants when you just slide out.

Put Westin's on my 2WD

For what it's worth, I put the westin's (black) on my my 2WD Arizona Beige SCrew. I like the way it looks and the way the step helps getting in and out. Keeps me from tearing up the seats sliding in and out (and I'm 6'1"...)

Here a link to my photo gallery. several photos in the albums with the bars on.

Joe,

It's kind of cool that you should ask what the board thinks of your mods . . . but in the end it comes down to what you think!

I put the Lund Runners on my Scab. Some people think they are too small, but, they do the job and don't shout "I'M A STEP".

In the end do what you feel good about. Check out the facts - easy to mount, wear good, etc., but, look good - up to you Dude!

IMHO, step on trucks are Wicked Cool . . . !
