Off Road Package

I was under my truck today and noticed I don't have any skid plates. (98 f150 supercab ORP). I bought it used from a ford dealer about 3 months ago. I dind't even think to check for them since I have the 265's and the ORP badging. Got looking a little further and noticed the sticker in the door has the stock tire size at 255. I though I read some posts in the past about dealers putting the decals and tires on non-orp trucks. Any body else Run into this? Also when you get the ORP do you get different gears?

My 99 w/ ORP came with 3.73 gears. It also has the skid plates. It sounds like the previous owner may have wanted the "look" without the "function" and the cost. If I remember correctly from when I ordered mine, the ORP consisted of, 17" wheels, stiffer shocks, skid plates, 3.73 rear end, and the stickers.

Mine has the ORP. Sticker on door says 265 17" but has 3.55's. I believe what size gears are an option. That's it. Got all the skids plates along with everything else.

I had the same thing happen. I bought my truck, a 97 ext cab 4x4 with off road decal, found this site afterwards and discovered that it was not an off road pkg. I went back to the used car dealer and he claimed the sticker was on there when he got it. Even tho i don't beleive him i decided not to pursue it any more. The things i missed out on with the pkg are Skid plates, larger tires, LS rear axle, sticker, HD shocks and different rims. Well, i put 265/75's on so the tires are the same as a 17 inch 265/70. I have the LS anyway (ordered as an option when the previous owner bought the truck), the skid plates are not that expensive to go buy from your dealer, tires are cheaper with the 16in rim anyway. The shocks would have been replaced by now anyway so that didn't matter to me. I don't mind that it's not an off road pkg but it has the decal, most people don't know the diff anyway. I think, but am not sure, it also comes with an extra leaf spring in the back, can anyone set me straight on this?

In closing(damn this was long) don't sweat it if you wdon't have the ORP. IT is not that big of a deal. Go get some new tires, some skid plates and it will be fine. Trust me.

The LS was an option for me. I had that on my list when the dealer special ordered mine and they left it off. Instead of waiting another 6 weeks for a new truck, I took it without it. As far as the gears go, in 99, I am almost certain that 3.73 were standard in the ORP. I wanted 3.55 for the mileage, but when I looked at the contents of the ORP in the F150 brochure that year, 3.73 was listed.

Anyone how hard it would be to mount the skid plates? I'm gonna call the dealer and get him to at least install those. A big reason I bought the truck was because the owner of the dealership said it was his brothers truck and that his brother used to own a ford dealership also. Therefore I think these two numbnutz should have known whether this was a factory installed package or just an attempt to beef up the truck.

Hey Skeezdawg,

Order the skid plates, an put them on yourself. Believe me, there's nothing to them. My one brother-in-law had the gas tank skid plate only. He order the rest of them. We installed them in an 1/2 hour. Save your money. Put it towards something useful dude. The dealer will charge you an arm an a leg, along with a left nut to install them. The holes are all there. Just don't forget to get the nuts and bolts. Good-luck Skeez. Talk to you later.

I don't know - I think I'd at least threaten him with a call to the Better Business Bureau or go over his head to Ford directly. He absolutely knew it wasn't a real ORP. He's a used car salesman and you generally can't outbull**** a bull****er. It's at least worth a call or two.

I know it doesn't matter that much, but that's the kind of thing that really annoys me.

In 99, fog lights were standard on all 4wd's. I think prior to that they were included in the ORP.

Talking

I have a 2001, no i dont know if anything has changed from yours to mine but here is what the orp now consist of. 1. 17" wheels, 2. 4x4 offroad decal, 3. skid plates. The rear gearing is optional, i have 3.55. I also have the tow package. You could also get a 3.73. If I remember right the fog lights come on all 4x4 not only the orp trucks. Chances are that the previous owner did this and not the dealer. Hope this helps some.

I know in 99 the ORP included the 3.73's becuase I wnated 3.55, but ended up w/ 3.73 becuase I ordered the ORP. The 3.55 LS MAY have have been a seperate option. I wanted a LS, but the dealer left it off the order sheet to the factory. Fog lights became standard on all 4x4 in 99 I think. My brother in law has a 97 XLT 4x4 and does not have them.
