Angry Wrecked Today

Well, this morning a guy in a Ford van ran a red light and smashed my truck. I just washed it 10 minutes before. At least it was clean.

Nice, i hope the frame isn't bent, they say trucks are never the same after the frame has been straightened.

OUCH. I don't think the frame is bent, especially since you drove it home. Dvmn soccer mom vehicles.

Man that sucks so you going to get a new bed or just fix that side now would be a good time to get a new bed if you wanted to make it a flare side.

Thanks everybody, I am going to get a new bed. I'm sure they will try and replace the side, that won't work for me. The frame and everything looks ok. The wheel was hit.

Are there any possible problems I should address with the repairs? Like axle, or axle bearings? The wheel is scrap, hopefully it took the impact being softer than the steel parts. The tailgate's ok. The bed did get into the cab, just a small dent. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated as usual.

A good body shop will do this anyway but have them check the alignment of the rear axle. It could be off a little from the impact. The shackles or other attachment hardware could be bent and need to be replaced.

svtoby150 ,
I know how you feel. On May 8th a school bus ran a stop sign and took out the whole side of my truck from the front fender to the bed. Got all new metal on that side including the bed side panel. After almost 2 mths at the body shop I got it back and it looks great. I also escaped the frame damage but had my rear wheel destroyed. They did a rear axle alignment and found a bent axle shaft where the wheel bolts on. They replaced that part and all is fine.
Push for a new bed if you can, they put a new inner and outer panel on mine and it doesn`t line up to the body lines like it used too(looking from rear towards front). Most people can`t and wont be able to tell but I know it is there when looking at the truck from the rear. The insurance co wouldn`t go for whole new bed since the floor wasn`t damaged.
Hope you get it fixed and back on the road soon

Frank S,
That is one absolutely fine ride man, and thanks for the info. 2000, I will push for the new bed, I will know it's there too if they replace the panels.
You guys are the best,
Toby

Svt: Thanks for the compliment. Just thought some other things about your truck. Try to push them to pay to repaint the whole side of your truck. It's kinda 50/50 if it will match up to the cab if they just paint the bed. And do not sign a "final settlement" check until you have driven the truck a few miles and know FOR SURE that it tracks ok and everything is to your likeing. And yes Ive been through all this before By the way, my '97 looked exactly like yours before I modded it up.

Thumbs up

SVT,
Like Frank S. said up top, Make sure that you have them check over your rear suspension{axles, axle shafts and springs}. BigBadRedLiftedFord on this site had an accident about a year ago and didn't find out that he had his rear axle flexed out of allinement. He was able to prove that it was caused from his earlier accident but the bill he said came out to be somewhere over $2000. {I'm pretty sure thats what he said} Hope it doesn't take 2 months to get it fixed. Have a twin brother that was in a wreck about a 1 and a half years ago that did about $12,300 came within $2000 of totaling out his 99 Z71! Took 2 months and 2 weeks to get it back.
