Rear Bumper Fix

Hello,

The plastic top on the rear bumper isn't sticking to the bumper anymore on the ends. It seems to be coming up. I tried to lift it up as much as I could and found some sort of black putty. It isn't sticking anymore. Should I just use some epoxy to make it stick again or does ford offer something else that will stick it back down. I'm only asking as I would like to put a light bar on and having it up like it is won't fit the light bar.

Thanks,
Andy

that black putty isn't supposed to be there. you are looking at someone else's attempt to glue the ends down after breaking the tabs off the pad. I'll check at work tomorrow but i don't think those step pads are real expensive.

Thanks for responding. Did you find out anything?

I plan on going to walmart tomorrow to get some epoxy and i have some clamps to hold it together if I don't hear back from you.

Thanks,
Andy

show dealer wants about $160 down here in Houston, TX. Might be able to get an aftermarket one. I personally wouldnt epoxy it. sounds like its already been glued once. might not hold and you could end up damaging the painted bumper.

Ah, didn't see your message til this morning. I epoxied it on saturday...clamped it and waited 24 hours til sunday to take it off. It looks really good and is holding. We'll see how it works out. Do you think it's too cold here in pennsylvania (32 degrees) to stick the light bar on under the tailgate? It has the 3M tape on it and I thought that stuff was good thru any temp.

Thanks,
Andy

I would think you would be ok stick that on. make sure and clean the area that you are going to attatch the light bar to. maybe get some adhesive promoter and apply it to that area also.

worse come to worse, you will just have a hard time removing that pad if you end up having to replace it. If it comes up again I would def. replace it.

@ BeauFlex - Ok. I read a couple posts that said I should wait til 50º weather to install the light bar with the 3M tape. It is a 60" bar with 5 - 3" strips on the back that attach to the truck. I wonder if there's a way to use clips to put it on or actually drill it into the truck.

I'm just worried with the cold weather that it might come off. I had put some chrome mirror covers on when it was 53º and still had trouble with one of them coming up a little bit. Took it off, applied more 3M tape and it's holding pretty good now.

@ Stewy 39 - Thanks...I used to search for stuff here all the time...just now getting back into it. I'm from Newville, PA. Where are you from?

Thanks,
Andy

I've heard of it, that's kinda north of Pittsburgh. My wife is from Bellevue which is just outside of the Burgh. I miss Pgh, but my truck...well, I live to make it look good along with some Steelers stuff on it. I gotta search these threads to see if the f150 emblems on the tailgate and below the side mirrors are replaceable and if so how easy they are to take off. Thanks for all your help.

Andy
