Headlight aiming question

I leveled my '10 Lariat Screw this week and was thinking I should re-aim my headlights. On top of the headlight assembly is an adjusting screw that turns the lights horizontally but for the life of me I couldn't find anything that would let me adjust vertically. I did everything short of removing the whole assembly and found nothing.
Anybody know the secret to vertical adjustment on these newer trucks.

Have you even tried to read the owner's manual? Head light adjustment is always in there.

i mean i don't know about the 09+ but on my headlights there is no horizontal adjustment, the one screw on the back of the headlight adjusts it up and down.

04 up are vertical adjustment only. There is no horizontal adjustment on the 10.

As it states on page 74 of the 2010 owners manual.

the mounts are the only way to adjust them up and down there are 2 or 4 wing nut type screws that hold in light unit, pain to to but can be adjusted through them

I also have a 2010 F150 and I cannot find any adjustment screw for the headlights. And yes, I have read the manual. There is only one terrible diagram and I cannot match that to anything on the headlight. So I have been unable to adjust them vertically.
If anyone could share a picture or something showing the headlight unit and the adjustment screw that would be great!

Hey.

Diagram on page 75 is clear enough - that P2 Philips screw head is visible and accessible from the TOP of the headlight, looking straight DOWN, after opening the hood. Screw is in Blue in the diagram.

Then, just follow the simple aiming directions that are in that section.

good luck

Hi MGDfan

I had another look and either I'm doing something really stupid or my lights do not match the manual. I have that diagram in my user manual but when I look at the headlight, there is no screw I can find. I've attached an image of what it looks like.

I'm not sure what else to do.

I went down stairs and took a few pics of the driver side headlight I pulled out of my truck when I did the HID update. From the front of the truck, raise the hood. Then look directly down from the top where I have the Red Arrow pointing. It's more like a "hole" or "well" where you stick a number 2 Phillips head screw driver into. Push down slightly so it will grip and turn. Like they said, you only can adjust them up or down, no side to side.

Hi Scarlet

thanks a lot for your pictures. So that looks the same as the pictures I had above. I didn't think that cone shaped opening was what people were talking about as its not a screw.
I will give that a go.
Although I don't think it will work in my case. I see you said you did an HID upgrade. I put in LED bulbs which have balasts and a little fan attached to each one. The light output is amazing but I'm not sure they are designed for the reflectors I have. The just reflect so high they light up overhead signs with no high beam. So when I drive behind cars they are blinded in their rear view mirror. On coming cars doesn't seem to be a problem as they don't shine over the opposite side of the road.
They are New Brights LED conversion.
If you don't mind me asking, what HID kit did you install?

thanks

^^^ Those are crap and a bad joke. Their output is actually horrible. And yer correct - yer reflectors are not designed fer anything but a halogen bulb. Yer doing ye fellow drivers no favours - nor are you seeing as well as you think you are. Aiming them will not help.

Want spectacular lighting? Either retrofit yer existing housings with high-quality HID projectors ( www.theretrofitsource.com ), or buy OEM projector heads and drop in Evox-R projectors, or see this page:

Pretty much what he said. In my case what I was referring to were the Factory HID headlight for the F150. In '11 HID headlights were not available. Then in '13 Ford made HID headlights available for some models. I learned that with an adapter for the wiring harness, that they would fit in my '11 and work. A lot of guys have done it. It was a bit pricey initially but from what I here prices are getting better. So here's a before and after of my truck with the original Halogens, then the retro fitted HID headlights.

This was in March of '13, before.

This was this past November.

MGDfan, thanks for the info. I already returned the Kit I bought as I figured there was no way to adjust them. Light was just projected 360deg so aiming not possible.

Scarlet, thanks for the info and pics. Does look great and I was originally looking for this but wasnt sure where to buy the lights etc. I read a lot of reviews about some cheaper projector headlights that were just crap.
Where did you buy your headlights from?

thanks
