i think theres just screws on the bottom of it before it goes inside the fender that you just unscrew and they come right off but not 100% sure.

Im not positive but ive tried removing mine as well on my expedition and its more than the screws under the fender because ive tried that. I wanna say its bolted on and has double sided tape as well.. someone correct me if im wrong because i plan on painting mine as well.

they might not be worth the trouble of removing to paint. i know most of the 04-08 guys with fx4 black flares paint them on the truck

Well, I took mine off awhile back. There's screws on the bottom of it and then at the very bottom there is a black pastic push in clip. Then there's this...

I started at the back and worked my way to the front pulling them up off the clips. Hope this helps.

Great pic modea2006 -

Well it looks like the OP could care less anymore, or is just ungrateful for the info, but the green tabs come out of the body, slide back into the flare slot, then the flare can be reinstalled.

In case anyone is interested I just got a quote on my expedition from an auto body shop and they said it would cost me 600 to just paint the two tone molding including the front bumper. I thought he was crazy for a price like this. I'm still going to shop around and see but i wasn't expecting to pay more than 300 or so. I think I've got a pretty big do it yourself project coming up for this one, but it must be done to match the black wheels I'll be getting.

Are those clips reusable that are in the fender?

I'm glads to see this, too. Mine may be coning off for some body repair.
