Rust on the inside bottom of the doors
Rust on the inside bottom of the doors
Any body have issue with bad rust on the inside bottom on your doors. My Screw has it on all four, and i have no clue how to fix, any help here guys would be great!
Funny you brought that up. I was loading a Screw the other day at work and I noticed all four of the doors had it...I'd never seen it before and this truck was an '02 or '03. I would sand it and put some of that rust converter on it. Let it dry then paint it.
So I jumped on this right, this rust is DEEEEP. I grinded quite a bit out and got some preventor and painted the doors. Three of them are quite nice, one of them is now bowing outward. There was so much rust, that when I grinded i got it to thin and now it bows out.....talk about sucky!!! Now I am going to have to take it to a body shop and see if they can fix that one door for me. I wish I had taken pics before I started.......real messy under there!!
Went to the body shop this afternoon.....guy says he cant fix it, wants me to get a new door.....1400 bux with door and labor and paint.......took it to my mechanic who has a body guy that does stuff for him......$500 that includes repainting the entire grey stripe around my truck.......um huh, which one should I do(sarcasm)?
I think i will.....I am going to talk (interview) him and see what kind of vibe i can get from him....everyone at the shop says he real good, and I guess I may take a chance....worst case I would have to replace the door, and that was option b anyway!!!

I've had all the door bottoms on my truck done twice already and the rear doors are due to be done again
On another posting, somebody recommended POR-15 which I might try next. For now, I'll just get rid of the rust and perhaps put some rocker guard or something on. Winter is coming...

What is POR-15, is that a glaze? And I was thinking that I would get it fixed then just line-x/rhino line my door bottoms and rockers.......that would be pretty sweet looking I think.
I don't think rust can tell the difference between the style of truck
I live in Ontario where there's an excess of salt used on the roads in winter. The design of the doors on these models allow the salt/snow/slush mix up under the bottom lip. This is a common problem from what I've heard.

i have an 01 supercab and i have hte smae thing happen to me a few months ago it was pretty bad on one door and needed a new piece of metal welded on. while it was in there i have all four doors treated and they seemed the seals with seem sealer it cost me $575 and my body shop told me to spray WD-40 into the weep holes every so often and this will stop the rust i hope this helps out
this is a common problem with the screws. One of Fords stupid cost saving ideas.
they were so cheap that they did not use any sealer on the doors and tailgate. if you look closer you will notice that there is no sealer all the way around the door were the outside sheetmetal is bent over the inside panel. my fathers 2001 supercab is fully sealed all around all 4 doors and his tailgate is also done correctly. the best way to fix it is to take it to a body shop that has the tool to bend it back, clean , primer. then rebend, seal then paint the surface. i had this done 5 years ago and it seems to be holding up well. i also oil spray it every fall to make sure the mosiure doesn't attack it from the inside.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say the doors of the supercab are sealed. On my '02, there's no extra weatherstripping or seal there. It's a bad design. There's a gap between the body and the door (still outside; before the actual door seal) and any mud/slush/whatever can get on the inside portion of the door bottom. A regular car wash won't remove this unless it's sprayed directly.
All my doors have been done twice already and one of the rear doors again has some surface rust (due to not being treated properly the first time by the body shop)
