Black things on top of bed rails

Can anybody tell me what if any problems will occur if I took the black things that cover my bedrails and tailgate off? Is it hard to do, how is it done. I am trying to refresh the look of the black on my truck, so any help would be appreciated!

It will have a very unfinished look. Lots of holes. There are clips sticking thru the holes, these have to be squeezed as you pull it off. Many of us have painted them with Fusion to restore them.

So do you paint them on the truck and just tape off the bed or take them off, can one person take them off easily.......

It can be done either way, depending on how much taping off you want to do so that there is no overspray. Yes, one person can remove them. Care has to be taken so that the plastic prongs or tabs are not broken off. Fushion is a Krylon product. It's a paint that bonds well to plastic. Many have painted the cowl pieces as well. There is an example of how that looks in the How To section.

have any of you guys that painted your bed rails, cowls, bumper covers, etc. noticed any wear or peeling from the paint? I really want to paint all of my plastic parts but I am skeptical that after a few washings, winters, gravel roads that the paint wont be able to hold up. Anyone have pics of paint after a year or two?

I dont think anyone will have any pictures, but that krylon fusion bonds very well to the plastic after you sand it very lightly and Im sure it will last quite a long time, even if it only lasts a year then just repaint it again.. when its only $3.50 a can its not like it expensive to upkeep this crappy fading plastic that ford puts on.

Well, I think I might practice on a few pieces of plastic. I got a xbox 360 wireless headset and a can of krylon fusion for Christmas, so I took it apart, and spray painted it. I didn't sand it, or use adhension. It doesn't look bad, I can see some fingerprint lines in my paint, guess I didn't let it dry fast enough. Also, it's been raining in NC, so I might have to do it inside the house.
