Touch up paint question

I have a scrape in the bumper molding (rubber part) on my truck ('08) silver metallic. I am wondering what the best way to touch up this spot would be. I want it to not be noticeable or at the very most minimally noticeable... What supplies etc do I need? Whats the best way to blend the touch up paint with the factory paint. To me, it's unsightly and I just want to eliminate it and have it look good.

ooh a new guy eh? welcome to the forum bud. im still pretty new myself. let me just say, that trying to touch up scrapes is some crazy ish. i have had my F150 for 5 years, which i have worked in the construction industry and my truck has taken a beating. i always take time to touch up lil chips n scratches, but scrapes are tricky. if the scrape if pretty big, around 3 inches or so there is no way id go near that thing. ur best bet is to just get it professionally done. to touch up a chip or deep scratch, u buy some filler putty at pep boys or auto zone. i use the bondo brand. then u purchase a lil touch up paint. something like aresol would work if u want to go this route.

if not, u can get the old school nail polish type container of paint which is what i use.

i clean the scratched area, put the putty inside and scrape it nice n flat with the edge of a credit card. after that dries, u can start applying ur coats of paint from the touch up container. then comes the fun part!!! u have to sand the edges of the touched up area with 3000grit sand paper to try and soften the edge between ur old paint and ur new paint. i normally do a trial n error thing where u add more paint, then sand, then add more paint etc. until the filled in chip or scratch sits flush with everything else. then u can put a lil clear touch up over that and sand if necessary. this method will give u results that make the area barely noticable, unless u kneel down and stare rite at it. good luck!

Hmmm a lot of cell phones let u send a picture to ur email. if you go to the picture on ur phone and send it, then in the receipient part u can type in your email adress. u then will have ur pic on your computer. from here, u need an account with photobucket.com, which is free. on the photobucket account you can upload the picture u took from ur email and it will give u a link for the picture, and this link is the one you enter when ur posting.. it sounds complicated but once u get into the flow of things you'll be doin it without thinking!! lemme know if u have questions

I would just go to NAPA and get a spray can
of black trim paint. This paint sticks good to
plastic trim.
Also get a small can of grease remover and rub
down the entire rubber molding. then use a
clean cloth to wipe down the surface.

Use masking tape and then spray.

If your trim is silver use the same process just purchase a spray
can of the color paint (need door code) and a can of clear and
follow directions. I would use 600 wet/dry paper to hand sand
the old finish. If scratch shows then you need a filler paste (nitrostan)
Follow directions.
