Rear bumper step pad question

2008 XL. My rear bumper was dented and I had a new one put on at the local Ford dealer. Anyway, since the step pad was not damaged they re used it. It seems a little loose around the edges. As in, you can kinda pull it up about 1/4". The rest is solid though. Since I never really checked how secure it was before I was hoping someone could let me know how their factory step pad is? Does it have any give around the edges? I don't want to go back to the Ford dealer not knowing if they caused this issue. I've heard the step pad is a process to remove and the clips can break so I want to be sure they didn't mess anything up.

Thanks a lot!

It would be easier to take the bumper off and then take the step pad off. Basically you have to squeeze the clips together from the underside of the bumper(some hidden or hard to get at when its still on the truck) in order for the pad to come off.

I realized it's only doing this on one side so it's obviously their fault. I will have the dealer fix it. I don't want to mess with taking off the bumper. I'm not sure I understand your response - The dealer installed a new bumper. Therefore they removed the old one along with the step pad. They then removed the step pad and put it on the new bumper. I guess they either broke a clip on one side or it didn't snap into place. The new bumper along with paint, labor, etc was over $700.00 (not that I personally paid, but still). If they messed it up, they can deal with it.

Thanks for the reply.

thats what happened when i took my bumper off to be powder coated, i went to put the step pad back on , fit fine but the corners didnt seem to catch.

i would first try putting your weight on it , stand on it / hop on it a bit lol

, and if that doesnt work , it might be best to take it off and re-install making sure the corners go in first.

All thanks to this forum. Otherwise I would have never known. I just so happened to be reading a thread on how difficult the clips are to remove. It's really not a big deal, but I'm glad I caught it either way. I'm sure if I hadn't known they would have charged me 20 bucks for a plastic clip. On a side note, they charged me $16.88 just for that circular bumper hitch cover! Just a round piece of plastic.

Curious, how much was a new one and how long before in stock?

They didn't charge me for a new one. They replaced it for free since they broke it. They got the new pad in with in a day or two. I was lazy though and didn't stop by to have it installed for a couple months after. All said and done, they replaced the bumper and step pad and it was just as good as new.
