Inside bottom of door rust!!!

Its really starting to get to me. its a 2000 and my driver door and passenger back door both are rusting pretty bad now on the bottoms. a body shop wanted 850 to fix it and couldnt guarantee it would last too long. should i drill a hole in bottom of door so water can drain out that gets in there? i just want to do something about it, im ocd when it comes to stuff like this! any help or suggestions would be great! thanks

I encountered this problem a while back and what I did was use Rust Converter and did many coats of it. Then used rubber undercoating and taped everything off. I have no had a problem since. Also remembering to wash down there every time helps out a lot. Hope that helps

It has helped mine. My truck is black so I didn't mind the black primer, but so far every time I was the truck and check on it its still holding good and no more rust. Glad to have helped!

I agree with the treatment you did, and you got good avice on how to do it from the previous posts. I'd only add that after you've given the paint / sealant time to cure (at least two weeks), that you start a bi-annual regimen of squirting oil up into the drainage vents in the bottom of the doors. I've done this on several vehicles I've owned and -in conjuntion with the other steps you've already done - and it has always halted the cancer. I think the oil penetrates the folded seam of the bottom of the door and prevents moisture from taking the same path. I've even heard of many guys who spray the whole underside of their truck with used motor oil. Claim it makes 'em last forever, but sound kinda messy to me. I might try it on my '98, but definitely NOT on my '06!

i encountered the exact same problem but with all my doors...what i did is i grinded the rust off down to the metal and sealed it with some rust converter. then i primed it(3 coats), then painted it 3 coats, looks professional. stops rust..

Thats interesting. Good concept but like you said way to messy to implement. I went and spent maybe 25-40 for the rubber undercoating and did the frame and other pieces of the body under there. Looks really good and effective I would imagine. No rust yet but it made the frame look better from a distance because you couldn't see the browish/orangeish color. Now its just black.
