the after photos, one coat of duplicolor truck bed coating. there is still alot more to be done but for the most part things are working as planned. I just did not have more time before i had to get to work.
when i sprayed on the rust kutter it made everything black with white spots everywhere, like road salt on a black truck. I wire brushed where i could and began spraying. this is how things look after 5 cans. I got under the bed, missed a few spots, frame rails all the way up to the front and most of the crossmembers and skid plates done.

(you can see a bit of the white spottiness at the bottom of this pic)

Wow , that looks so much better. I can't wait to do this. I just went to a body shop today to get an estimate on fixing the holes in my bed.. THere were actually quite a few. $400, which will include them priming so I can then get a spray liner. I was hoping for more like 200.. but this is a very good shop and atleast I know I can trust their work. What i'm really worried about are the cross members under the bed.. There are spots where I can poke my finger through them! They can't be toooo bad though. I just had 3000 lbs of compost dumped into the bed (pretty sure that is over my weight limit, I was definatley white knuckled) and drove 20 miles with no problems.
Anyway, nice job.. Hope mine turns out as well.

i wouldnt overload like that too often. your over stressing the leaf springs, if they give the ywill "flip" and the full weight of your bed, and the load come crashing down on your rear axle, usually causing it to snap in half.
thanks, but there is still alot left, at least 5 more cans worth i'd guess. Based on the turnout of my valance, and step bars im gonna do the bed rails, steps on the bed and the rear bumper as well. I'd like to do the tailgate handle and rear window trim but im not sure on those yet. this duplicolor truck bed coating is simply amazing for this kind of stuff. A little 320 grit sand paper, some "prep all" and the duplicolor, wow what a difference.

when looking back on this i'd add coveralls, or at the least a garbage bag with a hole cut for your head to the saftey goggles and rubber gloves. not so much for the spraying but for the truck bed coating. most of the over spray will land on your face and chest. as far a s the rust killer spraying goes, a dust mask and outside. not even a well ventelated garage. this stuff is rough if you get a whiff of it.
got 3 more cans today of the bed coating, more spraying tomorrow!
(yes i know i've dumped a fortune into this stuff, but im kinda **** about stuff like this. i prolly have sprayed wayy to much, but NY salt will do its work with or without me)
