For the side and tailgate badges, what kind of black paint did you use? How did you prep them?

got my decals and overlays today!

i put the overlays on... they were kinda a p.i.t.a. since the ford emblems are round, but i managed to get them both on just fine.

i immediately took the FX4 decals outside and held them up to my existing decals. they're the same size, so i'm going to use the new ones.

i'm guessing one of two things... either the guy who owned the truck before me put on larger decals, or someone before you put on smaller decals, lol.

i'm going to wait till tomorrow afternoon to work on the two bed decals.. i still have to go get some goo-gone or something like that and start picking away. pictures will be posted tomorrow afternoon!

i bought my truck new in 05 so the decals came from the factory like that.. im wondering if patriotdecals.com changed their 16" decal that they offer, to the size that they made for me?? im sure they had the 16" decal for the 5.5' bed and 17" for 6.5 bed and once i made them aware that it was way too big they probably fixed it.. take a before and after pic, so i can see them..
why are you using goo gone?? i dont think thats too good for your paint!!
if you think you need it to remove your OEM decals.. you dont.. just park the truck in the sun for a few hours and they will peel off no problem. or you can use a hair dryer to heat them up. after i took them off i used window cleaner to clean the area before applying the new ones

another thought about the decal size.. i just noticed that you have a 2004 FX4, mine is a 2005. i wonder if they changed the size in 05? or maybe my truck was made by "little people"

yeah forget the goo-gone stuff i was talking about... it seems like everyone just uses a little heat and they pull off no problem. i'll be using a blow dryer out there tomorrow. on my last truck, they peeled right off with my finger nails, so hopefully i won't take too long.

i'd try leaving it sit out in the sun all day, but it's not quite hot enough here just yet. today was perfectly sunny all day... i tried to peel off one bedside decal and got absolutely nowhere, then decided to wait for tomorrow.

lol... and who knows about the decals anymore... it is possible they shrunk them after one year. i'm just glad i didnt get decals that are like 3 feet long, lol. the ones on my bed right now don't seem to be standing out, so i know these new ones will be just fine, even if they turn out to be a larger than normal size.

how did you get the actual badge to be black or was that part of the inlay?

Got my decal from patriot a couple of days ago! I will put them on this weekend as send out some pics. Firstly.....BLACKOUT.....how far down from the tonnue cover are your decals? I removed mine long ago, so I don't know exactly where to locate them from the top of the bed rail.

Damn that truck is sexy!!!! I want to know how you did your emblems... what paint did you use? any clear? Do you like the dark shadow gray inserts? What do you think about flat black inlays over the glossy black emblems?

Also I have questions about painting my grayish flares to match my paint. Any help with that is much appreciated also, maybe just to point me to the right thread.

thanks
