Rust on bottom of doors

on my white '00 f150 while cleaning it today i noticed on two of my doors rust along the bottom of the inside part. does this happen to alot of peoples trucks aroudn this age? how do i go about fixing it so it doesnt eventually go through then see it on the outside, or better of taking it to a body shop?
thanks

Very common on our style of truck. Mine goes into the dealership next December to get 3 doors fixed. Luckily I caught it early and it will only be about $50 a door to fix. If you search around somebody posted pics of what happens if you let it go, pretty gruesome.

My 03 screw was in 4 times to have all the doors and the tailgate done.
They said they would take care of it if it happened again after the warr. expired.Well they are all rusted again, drivers door is rusting up the inside edge closet to the fender. I wanted new doors. There solution.......cut off the and replace all the lower edges of doors and tailgate.
I don't think so!!!!More rust waiting to happen that way.
So now they are washing there hands of it,and it just keeps getting worse.
Good luck with yours.

I had my '02 done last year and it's probably going to go in again in the spring... to much f'ing salt on the roads around here combined with a fairly "open" design at the bottom of the doors = bad combination.

The shop that did my doors and tailgate last year did an awesome job, but as with the factory paint, it didn't stand up. For the relatively small investment, I'm not too bothered having to do it again.

I have wondered about filling that groove with silicone or something similar to keep anything from even getting ahold of anything, has anyone tried this before?

i sanded and sprayed my lower rockers with bed liner coating. ill take some pics when i get my truck back from the shop. prolly be tomorrow night sometime.

I live in Buffalo, NY we use more salt than you can imagine. i'd rather the salt eats the rubber coating i sprayed on than the metal.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing something similar... either that or a extra coats of clear.

Having oil sprayed into the door seemed to help me ALOT. Up here in Canada, a good product is Krown, really gets into the smallest of areas. I had the bottoms fixed, then had the truck undercoated, worked great. It stopped the tailgate rust dead. The driver door has come back in new areas, but very small. Passenger side is great. My biggest enemy is the step bars and their rusting, yearly painting there. I might just get stainless or aluminum ones instead one day.

Bottom line, remove rust, prime, paint, maybe clear, then get oil sprayed from a rust proofing place. It might not stop it permanent, but will slow it drastically.

Sounds like solid advice... I am going to be taking my new car to Krown soon, so I'll probably do the same with my F150 once the doors are repainted. I don't think my body shop put clear on last time, so it didn't last for a year
