XLT/Lariat (97-03)
XLT/Lariat (97-03)
What options does a Lariat have over an XLT? I know it has leather, ESOF 4x4, among other things, but what else does it have? The reason why I am asking is b/c I am considering upgrading some of my options, and would like to know what exactly I can upgrade to.
On my Lariat I have a moon roof and pedal positon adjustment. Thats the only thing different that I have seen other than the leather. Heated seats might be another option. Got some pics:

minimonster17,
From '97 to '03, the main differences I can remember between XLT's and Lariats are leather upholstery (which is only partly leather and much more vinyl), standard power driver's seat on Lariats which was optional on XLT's, and different standard wheels, maybe. I'm sure I'm leaving a lot of stuff out. Mainly it was the leather seats, most everything else could be ordered on the XLT. Oh, I believe all Lariats got the molded fender trim that an XLT didn't have unless it was a 4x4. When the adjustable pedals came out, I think they became standard on Lariats. I don't think you could get an XLT with the keypad entry system on the driver's door like on Lariats. Lariats always had a V8 in them, no V6's, and had no less than a 3.55 rear end. After '98, all Lariats were automatics (no alternative, and I actually have a '98 Lariat with a 5-speed). Around '00 or '01, they dropped standard cab Lariats and they were all either SuperCabs or SuperCrews. They may or may not have dropped the 8' LWB bed when they did the cab change. At some point Lariats got different standard wheels than XLT's. I think Lariats went to chrome 17" around '00 or '01. That's about all I can think of. I know that lots of newer options have come out since my '98, and you can usually bet that the Lariat got those options as standard, where they were an up-option on an XLT. I'm pretty sure the moonroof was always an option on either trim. Hope this helps.

Well, I already have upgraded to signal mirrors, however not heated. I also have put in a keyless entry keypad, not the stick on one, but the one built into the doorhandle, as the lariat has. I am going to put in a moonroof, and have found a good installer, and was also considering the adjustable pedals, and the power seat. Roughly, how much would these cost each, and how involved the installation be?
my xlt has power mirrors, and a leather steering wheel.
These are the options i can think of.
Most lariats were 4x4s and 5.4s (but technically those are "options"
(So you will naturally get the 4x4 valence with fog lights.)
Power seats
Heated seats
Center console
Heated/signal mirrors
Moonroof
Slider window (power or non)
Electronic Climate control
6 indash changer
"premium" speakers
Keyless entry handles/remote
Bed extender (supercrew)
17" wheels

Patman03SprCrw,
If I had to rank them, I'd say the power seat(s) are the easiest, then the adjustable pedals, and last the moonroof. The moonroof is going to be very involved. The others you can do without any body modifications. I'd have a hard time chopping up my roof to put the moonroof in. The seats are easy: if you can come up with the $$ to buy power seats, that's 75% of the battle. Even if your truck didn't come with power seats, it wouldn't be too hard to pull some power under the seats and hook them up. Expect to pay at least $500 for a nice set of power seats (for Lariat leather); if you'd like dual power seats, look at Expeditions and Navigators. I don't know much about the pedals; I'd say it's probably not too difficult to add, but I have to think that the parts are a little pricey. Good luck. You've already added quite a few goodies to your truck that most people wouldn't think was worth the trouble, and I'd say if you figured out how to install them, these others won't be a challenge.

Put my new headlights on, mounted some fogs behind my grill, painted my grill and top plastic part of front bumper, still gotta do my lower valence, ill post pics when it's all done.
Patman,
Sorry about the screw-up. I just grabbed the wrong name when replying. So anyway, Minimonster, you've done some pretty complex mods already, so the ones you're still looking into shouldn't be too much harder. Again, I'd say the moonroof will be pretty intense. You'll have to get the matching headliner and roof console mounting hardware. Let us know if you decide to tackle it.
