should be a metal access plate on the back side of the tailgate, take it off and see what you have to deal with.

Didnt see anything on the back of the tailgate, will just have to fiddle around with it One thing I'm wondering is when you take the handles off is there any way to get the handle itself off from the base of the door handle(trying to paint the handle chrome and the bottom to match the truck)

i suggest you just get the lt handles....it is very hard to remove the handle out the bucket without breaking it....when i replaced my handle pulls i broke one of the buckets trying to reinstall it
