Another Rear Sliding Window Leak

I have a 2000 F150 XLT Super Cab with a sliding rear window. The rear window has been leaking off and on since I bought the truck, but just recently has it gotten really bad. I looked it over, and do not see any cracks. Does anyone have any suggestions as to who carries the seal other than ford, and if so, is there a part number? Also, does anyone know how to remove the plastic trim around the rear window?

I had mine replaced last year. Just called the glass company out to replace it. Should be able to have it done for under $150. Since the replacement I have not had any further leaks.

the plastic trim and the window itself bolts out from the inside. take all the trim off and the back seat and they are 9mm bolts allthe way around be carefull not to screw up your head liner

I can't promise it will apply in your case, but I had a 99 extended cab 150 prior to my 05 with a leaking back window.

I had taken it to two glass shops when the second one found the problem wasn't with the seal, but the way the glass was bonded to the frame that it mounted on in the rear of the cab, solution: replace all 3 back window pieces and the "frame" that held them in the rear of the cab.

Just make sure that replacing the glass alone will fix the leak, as it probably would not have on my old truck.

Mine is doing the same thing. Took to the glass shop and he said he has had several f150's with leaking back windows. Got to pull it out and put new seal in. Gonna cost $85.

I was told by 2 shops on my old F150 that replacing the seal wouldn't fix it and that an entire new window assembly (glass & apparently the piece that the glass mounts to) would be needed to guarantee the problem would be solved.

exactly right. it is the frame that the windows mount into that breaks, it is because it is three peices of plastic bonded together. if you look at a later model rear window(i think like 00&^) you can see it is one peice. and there is no seal that i am aware of the window is BOLTED in with butal tape(urathane on a roll about the size of a sharpie marker)

I know this is going to sound real bad....but after three trips back to the dealer for a leaking problem yielded the same leaky results, I got really frustrated and tossed a 2X4 through the back window and called my insurance company. The glass repair shop installed a new back window and the leaking stopped

I had to replace the rear slider on my 1999 Supercab and just replaced the entire window as the problem usually is in the fact that Ford used a plastic frame on the pre-2002 trucks which cracks, allowing the water in. I replaced it with a CR Lawrence window as they use a metal frame so this would not happen again. I think I paid $225 installed for it and they came out to my house to install it.

You should have thrown one through the Dealer's window too!

Cool leaky back window.

This may not apply but my 04 super cab had a rear sliding window leak and I had the dealer replace it. they said the seal was leaking. Two weeks later it started to leak again. I decided to fix it myself and found that the water was coming in from the high mount brake lamp. I removed the asy and resealed the lamp hsg and my rear window has not leaked since.

My 99 ext. cab has the same problem. I dropped it off at the dealer last week to have a few things done and asked the service manager how much it would cost to fix the leak. He quoted me $100 +/-. Two days later the tech calls me and says it'll be $575 to fix the window. My window still leaks. They wanted to replace all three peices of glass, the window seal and the weather stripping.

I think I'll follow Ameration's lead and call a glass company.

I noticed that there are 2 TSBs from Ford addressing the rear window leak. 01-1-11 and 04-2-2. 01-1-11 specifically says that the old procedure was to replace the entire assembly, and the new procedure is to install a seal kit. Has anyone had luck with these? I know my local dealer says the window needs to be replaced. I'm going to print the TSBs and take them in to see what they say. Just got back from the dealer. Unfortunately, the part kit listed under TSB 01-1-11 is no longer available. 04-2-2 addresses the center sliding portion leaking not the frame leaking. Guess I'll have to pony up for the new window.
