Post well crud I have them too

Well, I decide to give the truck (y2k f150 4x4 xl) a good washing to be followed by a waxing. SO I wash it,dry it and start waxing. What do you think I noticed on my drivers side door? Yep I have the beginning of a door crack. Its only about 2 millimeters long now, but it is there. What I don't get is I thought this was a problem associated with the trucks that have power windows and mine are manual. Oh well, looks like a trip to the dealer is in order. As a minor sidenote I also found cracks on my buddys 99 excab4x4 with power windows.I sure hope the fix is a permanent solution.

Does your truck have 1 piece or 2 piece trim? My 2000 has 2 piece trim and no cracks yet.

While visiting my local body shop, I saw a pre-2000 F150 getting a door replaced. Both the old door and the new door had the trim off and I could see that both doors had a reinforcement plate but the one on the old door was shorter. The plate on the new door extended all the way to the back of the window and slightly upward.

The trim on the old door is 1 piece but the trim on the new door is 2 pieces.

it has the 2 piece trim, so I don't *think* that really is gonna let people know if they are gonna be crack free or not.At any rate, I printed up the tsb and I have an oil change apointment on monday and I will ask them about it when I am there.Hopefully all will go well.I will let everybody know what my particualr dealership thinks about it.One more thing,I a few months back I was thinkin of tradin off and I found that every used F150 on the lot had cracks on the drivers door.Ignorance by the dealer? we'll see

My preventative kit is now on order. The guy in the dealers body shop was actually quite anxious to get this fix going. He also told me that they were going to fix all the used f150s (with cracks) when they are sold.Apparently He doesn't want to flood the shop and the are on the backburner.I will post more updates as the fix is being done
