I have the Extang soft top that has the vinyl lip that hooks onto an aluminum rail mounted on top of the bed. The top is actually a replacement for the first one I had on which the vinyl started chipping. They replaced it free, no questions.
Hard tops don't allow any fudging on contents that are too tall like the soft tops do.

I have the snapless variety and like it quite well. It installs easier and faster than the snaps. Two of my friends have the snap on kind. They work well also, but do seem to take another minute or two to install. Taking them off is about the same.
Anyone had problems with rust on the snap models or have they fixed that problem?
The benefit is that the soft cover has been extremely practical for me. A dry bed, coverage when I need it and most of all I can easily take it off. I've owned my truck for less than 2 months and have already had at least 4 occasions where either a camper shell (which I had on my last truck) or a hard cover would have been in the way and had to be removed.
The soft cover is very practical for me.

I have the Downey SST and I must say that "The King is Pleased" After much searching I found this to be one of the best.[img]

I have had the Extang Platinum tonno with the snaps for over two years and it still looks as good as new. I have no complaints!

I have the Lund Premier. I rate it excellent. It was also easy to convert it to a flip up for a few bucks.

I have the Ex-Tang (Ford) snapless cover and have had very good services with it. Easy off - easy on, fits well, wears well! I have the long bed so mine has three bows . . . I like the covered wagon look!

I like the vinyl lip type instead of the snaps type only because I think it looks better. A lot of people have trouble getting the lip type on in the winter because the whole top shrinks when it's cold. Just spread it over the frame and pour some hot (warm) water on it and it expands and goes on easily.
Mine looks just like the picture posted on this thread, truck's the same color too (red), except my truck is an off road 4X4.
Disadvantage is that this type is either on or off--their's no middle position. But it's very easy to put on and off and they're inexpensive at about $200. The frame adds about 2 inches in height that I think looks good. Good luck.

I have an Extang soft cover with the snap. I did a lot of research on this one. One of the biggest issue with soft covers is that they stretch and shrink with the temperature. The Extang is supports and snaps are fully adjustable. It makes a big difference. I have heard of a lot of problems with the J-channel type. They look nice in the summer when they fit flush, but the corners stick up in the winter. J-channel can become brittle and break as well. Just my 2 cents. Good luck
