Angry 2000 F150 door crack

I waxed my truck this weekend and found the crack in my drivers side door ,I thought they had that problem fixed by now. What's the process, do I go back to the dealer or fight with the factory? I also found the pop rivets in the weather stripping over the door have let go. My 2000 ex-cab only has 27,000 miles on it.

I was told last July that the fix was about to be implemented. The '01 models were just starting down the production line. So, early '01s and ALL 2000's are susceptible.

I have no idea in what month the '01 doors got reinforced.

Question

My 99 supercab has not shown any cracks yet.
Will they show up, if so where should I be looking. No warranty left. Will this be my problem now or does the factory fix it.

When I took my truck in to start accident repairs last week I saw 2- 00 F150`s both getting repairs in the crack area. I don`t know if they were getting a repair due to cracks or other but both had primer right in that area and no place else. Plus side is I`m getting one new door that was made according to the parts guy within the last 2 months so maybe its a updated or fixed door so I only have to worry about the other. Hated to have to get hit in an accident to get it though

>>>>The dealer's had mine now for almost two weeks. They ordered me a new door to replace my drivers side door because of the crack. I called em last Friday to check on it's status and they advised me the factory shipped them the wrong door and they didn't know it until they took it to the body shop. They were expecting the "second" door Friday. I called them again today to check on my truck and they advised me the the second door that was shipped was the right door but that it had been damaged during shipment. Now I'm waiting again for my third replacement door and none of them have been put on the truck yet. It seems if it can happen it happens to me.

While visiting my local body shop, I saw pre-2000 F150 getting a door replaced. Both the old door and the new door had the trim off and I could see that both doors had a reinforcement plate but the one on the old door was shorter. The plate on the new door extended all the way to the back of the window and slightly upward.

The trim on the old door is 1 piece but the trim on the new door is 2 pieces. Could it be that this new door is the fix for the crack? Does anyone have the 2 piece trim and the crack? If so, this theory is wrong. If not, this may be a way of determining if your door will crack. I have a 2000 super cab with the 2 piece trim and no cracks yet, but it only has 5000 miles.

Unhappy

Cracks are about a foot above each door handle, creeping out from under the rubber seal around the window. Seem to be more prevalent on power window models and may be caused by power window stresses created on the door.

I have two cracked doors in an off-warranty '97 F-150 4x4 Off road 3-door stretch cab. Ford says I own the problem because I have 83,000 miles.

Has anyone found a way to fix the cracks without replacing the doors??????

Has anyone heard about whether Fords will fix them on off-warranty vehicles?

My dealership just got a cracked door complaint on a brand new '02 150 (service mgr said it's an '02), BTW, so it looks like they still haven't solved the problem and they're probably replacing them, when they do so at all, with faulty new doors!!

This door crack thing could evolve into a situation like the old Ford blown engine and peeling paint fiasco--I sure hope so!

Cool

Hey Mike , Bob gave a good explanation of what and where about the cracks. I'm waiting for the kit to come in to repair mine. My crack is only on the drivers side but they're going to glue some kind of stiffener to both doors, thats supposed to be the repair, but I've heard of some cracks coming back and I've got almost 30,000 miles on mine and they said that after the warranty runs out they can't do anything.I read about some people having the repairs done out of warranty in the virginia area??????I've been driving Fords since I was sixteen and this is my first new one since I bought a 79 Bronco new and damn if you don't have to spend alot of money on something just to find out you ain't gain a whole lot. Pisses me off to have to stop what I'm doing to have them fix something that should have been taken care of 3 or 4 years ago. Good Luck with you new 150 they are supposed to have solved the problem in the late 2001 models.
