Post Door crack problem in not covered in Canada?

I just found out that my basic warranty is up to September 2001 so there shouldn't be a problem with repairing the door cracks. I called the dealership and they said they never heard about the door crack problem here. I told them that I found out about the door cracks in this website and would have not noticed it otherwise. They also said that whatever is posted in the internet(eg. TSBs) may not be covered in Canada because they are generally for Americans. Is that true? Or are they just being jerks about this problem? Are there any canucks out there that have a successful fix with their door cracks with or without warranty? Please share your experience.

Also note that I actually bought an extended warranty that is "bumper to bumper" when I bought the car last February. In theory and for reference of those who bought their trucks used with high milage, would that have helped if I discovered the door crack after September 8?

Thumbs up

Well, I think I would find another dealership to go to, as the one here in Kingston, Ontario is fixing the ones under warranty, But the ones like mine that are 4000 miles out of warranty is still in question.

Good Luck.

ok fella's.........it is covered in warranty, find a new dealership to deal with, they have a fix, they know about the fix, and they have been trained on how to apply the fix. The problem is covered under the 5 year body integrity section of the warranty, no milage limit.

even if it wasn't covered, it is a flaw in their design, that alone is enough to sue them over if they refuse to cover it.

Godd luck.

(ps the parts are on order for my repair, in Carleton Place)

Thanks guys. I haven't called them back but I'll give them crap if they refuse to fix it. I even noticed that my black truck has roof gutter cracks after cleaning it last Saturday so I'm going to have to talk to them about that. So far, ever since I bought my truck last February, I had to get the alignment corrected(it had no accidents though so its probably just part of wear and tear), the airconditioner fixed, and this May 5, to take care of some oil leaking in my engine. I love my truck but I wish all these problems will go away(it only has 45,600 km when I bought it and to date, I've only put 1,000 km, which includes a trip to Seattle).

I talked with the bodyshop at the dealership where I bought my truck and they said that the crack is covered. I'm waiting for the kit to come in.

I got my '98 fixed. They fixed the door crack on the driver's door, did the preventative fix on the passenger's door, stripped & repainted the roof channels, and I've got an appointment to fix the rust bubbles forming on the door & tailgate bottoms. And all this after just 50,000 km.

queetz - send me an email - i work with ford credit and was recently working in the Vancouver office, i'll tell you what i think of certain dealers in the lower mainland.

Kelly, I'm there with you too - i've got a kit coming for my door, pass side is ok. Drivers door has the bubbles, and my tailgate is ok...for now. I've just turned 72k on mine.

yeah ford's instructions are pretty vague and they give u crappy pictures, did repair on my truck and ended up pulling both window glass out and the door handle just so i could see in there to make sure the support was in the proper place, ford wants u to use double sided tape and slide it up in there and align it with a screw driver - good luck with that. Mind u if you have hands that bend corners and the size of a two year old then maybe it can be done that way, by the way ford doesnt pay much to do them (under 2 hrs) so i lost my butt on that one, besides i had to wait forever to get the kit and when i did get it one of the tubes was broken open and leaking glue so i had to mix it up seperatly - nice mess. but now i dont feel my doors flex when i put them up

I have been dealing directly with Ford and they keep telling me they dont have a fix yet. I have both the door crack problem and rust bubbles on the lower door by the seams. The local dealer is clueless. The body manager thinks the crack is from driving down gravel roads!!Since I didn't buy it there they are not helpful.(Eventhough I purchased a new Windstar there 3 years ago)Its becoming pretty obvious Ford is stalling and has no real intrest in helping out. I wish I knew how to get some action from Ford.

it is now available in canada, at first there was a problem with the fix being able to cross the boarder until it was approved by the government. here is the tsb 01-02-06
they may not have repaired a vehicle yet but this is the number tell them to punch it into oasisis and it will come up

Man, I've had almost the exact same 'chats' with my dealership here in Toronto. "Door cracks? What's that?" - I tell them in great detail. "Well, y'know, you can't trust the internet" - I flip, they now kiss my *** and say they'll look into it. 2 days later, they've magically heard about the problem and a fix is on the way. This was almost 2 years ago now, and they I routinely go through this nonsense. So, before my warranty was up, I called Ford of Canada and gave them all of my information about 'the slap' 'the crack' (sound like STD's eh? sorry) Now, if they actually fix this stuff after my warranty ran out, it'll be a miracle. I'm not holding my breath. Infact, I'm at the point now where I'm gonna sell this sucker....well....maybe not....

Bambino - I performed the repair, it is a bit of a pain to try and do the way ford recommends, pulling the window glass and run out will take more time but i feel a much higher quality repair will result. Besides I dont know if it is actually possible to do it the way ford sugests as there just plain inst enough room, and you really cant see in there to do it ford's way. mind you i may just have to big of hands and i know i dont have x ray vision. You do need the body shop type glue gun - mixes the double glue tube into one. One of mine was broken open so glue had leaked out but I had to wait so long for the repair and I had my truck all apart anyway so i just broke the other tube open and mixed it up that way, might be a good idea to where gloves - whoops - pretty much had to grind the stuff off my finger nails
