Post NEW SIGNAL MIRROR RETROFIT

Has anyone looked into putting the new mirrors with the signals that are NOT in the mirror itself but rather a part of the outer housing onto their truck. I have the power mirrors on my '00 XLT and am interested in putting them on there but am not sure what needs to be replaced. I am taking a trip to the lot tonight to check some things. I think that only the black plastic surround needs to be replaced, it seems like the color keyed insert is the same size. Can anyone help me?! Sorry for the long post.

I give that a big old
Are you sure about having to replace the surround too? I never got a chance to go to the lot. If any of you live in around Seattle and use Nextel you will know that service was down... guess who the engineer was working on that? Yep lucky me

I checked into this also, but I'm still not certain that the whole mirror has to be replaced. From looking at it, it appears that the painted cover with the signal built in is the same size as the cover without it. I just can't believe that Ford would have two completely different mirrors. It doesn't make sense financially, and I don't think the bean counters would let them do it. I have yet to find someone with signal mirrors that will let me pop their cover off and try it on my mirror, but I think that is what it will take to know for sure.

From what I found out from Ford dealer is the wiring for the turn signal is built into the mirror itself not the cover and that is why you need to replace the whole assembly. I too thought just the covers would work. But no such luck

Well that changes things quite a bit. Too bad we can't just get the wiring ourselves. Very strange on Ford's part.

If you wanted to go for the change and get something really slick while you are at it...the 01 Navigator Mirrors!
They have the signals in there, but there is an added feature that is neat if you garage your ride everynight....there is a button on the dash that will auto-fold the mirrors in (so you don't have to reach out and pull them in.)
