Try loosening the inner clips first, the ones you can reach on the underside of the bedrails (I used a pair of needle nose pliers). The outer clips are impossible to reach. Try heating the bedrails with a hair dryer, then pulling up on them. That's the only suggestion I can make. I ended up buying new bedrails for my truck, a styleside. Good luck. If you find a better way, let me know!

Question

Let us know what it looks like under there. I have a fiberglass tonneau that doesn't cover the plastic trim on the bed, and i am considering taking them off.
Thanks

Is there a special tool requires to get off the plastic bed rails and flareside plastic steps??? I want to get under there for "spring cleaning" and waxing.

I had some body work done on my flareside, and the guy said he would just order new steps because the plastic clips usually broke when they took them off. I'm sure you would be more careful, though, since its your truck.

Silver:
After a crash, I had to have new fiberglass bed sides put on. Here's what they looked like during the prep stage. You can see what the top of the fender looks like when the black trim piece is removed...kinda ugly

yes, those nasty boxside mouldings don't like coming off, and the plastic step pieces i think aren't as bad, but they aren't much $ to replace either.. even when you do take extra care taking the box mouldings off the clips like to break.. that's when they do come off some silly stuff ford does to make a buck..

MarvI: Hey, I was looking at your picture of the Flare side panels that were going to go back on your truck...Are there no "stake-bed" holes at the front end (cab end)?
I was going to drill through the plastic into the stake holes and insert those chrome eyes for extra
ties, but I couldn't seem to locate
any stake bed holes. I guess there are none...?

Winder:
What you see in the picture is what I know...doesn't look like there are any stake holes there. As you can see, the top of the Flareside fiberglass fender is really ugly when the black part is romoved. Too bad. I think it would take a whole lot of fiberglass skills to make the top smooth.

THere aren't any stake holes in the flare sides for a couple reasons... first of all, the outer panels are fiberglass... Since they wrap around over the top, they would also need to bear some of the load and would inevitably crack. And besides, you actually plan to {gulp} haul stuff in it?!?! What were you THINKING?!?! Like it's a truck or something.... Sheesh!? Kids today....

Here's the rest of the story...the Flareside bed without the fiberglass sides.

Thought you might like to see it.
