this door crack thing has been going on for a long time...... even if it is a design flaw it's not going to make your door fall off. and it's not that big of deal to make you go out and get a chevy. i'm sure chevy has some design flaws as well.
speaking of chevy, i wonder if all the owners are this worked up about the day time running lights - how many new chevy's have you seen that actually had both lights working?

I have a 98 with the cracks! Even with 80,000 kms dealer is willing to repair by mig welding. My neighbors 98 with 100K got turned down??? If it cracks again they tell me they will replace the door. I keep hearing about the online TSB's or articles from Ford on this. What is the web address for this info?
I called Ford and registered my complaint. I strongly suggest everyone else does as well as this is the only way to create a recall.

a door crack isn't worth ford dropping everything and replacing everybody's door. i think they are a little busy being blamed responsible for the death of explorer owners w/ exploding tires.
I just think you guys are getting a little carried away when you start talking about lawsuits and changing brands. GM and Mopar probably have rust and crack problems too.
and if nobody never said anything on this BB then no one would have noticed (mine's barely there). I'm sure there is some sheetmetal crack on another car you own that you just haven't noticed yet.
you have to remember that these vehicles are mass produced and man-made - perfection will never happen.
and i never compared faulty lights to door cracks - its just an observation.
i'm sorry to those new to door cracks, but this has been talked to death. and certain responses appear overdramatic. but ford knows about this and have known for quite some time now.
BTW, can somebody explain if this crack actually has a bad effect on the structural integridy of the truck.

dang,
ford and gm are constantly making customer exchanges. not everybody is happy w/ gm (or other brands) either. the only thing that is going to hurt ford is the explorers. there are people here that are having worse problems than door cracks and they have yet to mention selling their truck. no matter how many problems you list these are still good trucks. there is nothing ford needs to come clean with. as long as they aren't as bad as the pintos then i'm fine with it.

Cool

Ok,Ok,
so I am Mad, I don't seem to have the dealers around me that you guys/gals have, My dealer wants my truck for 4 days without giving me a loaner, I cannot do this and it pissed me off, a GM does have there own problems and a door crack IS the only thing wrong with my truck. It is a great truck and this is a great sight. so I will cool down now and go wash my truck so both of us will be happy for awhile. (at least I don't have to worry about rain)

Well I don't want to make you madder but,
washing a truck in Texas right now is a hanging offense.

Yes, Ford is busy with the Explorer tire problem. I just heard yesterday that they feel this is "entirely the tire manufacturers problem". UNREAL!
I agree not as many people would know about this problem if it wasn't a topic on this BB , then again, if there were no topics, there wouldn't be a BB. These boards are exactly for this type of discussion. If there is a topic that you do not wish to discuss.....don't click.
I have owned Ford trucks all my life, six of them. My 65 F100 in high school, My 69 302 three in the tree, My 77 F250 4x4, My 88 F150 (275K mi.), My 94 F150, now the 98.
Historically Ford trucks have been great.
BTW, Ford customer service contacted me by phone to reply to my email. According to the young lady, there is nothing in place to address this problem. Ford is simply waiting for the whole thing to go away.

Exclamation

I was told, probably by the same young lady<that if no notation was made before
the warranty ran out,you are sol.. I am in
Albuquerque for now but will visit my dealer when I go home to Houston. I will
have it out with the svc. manager until he
gives in. If he doesn't I'll stand around to
tell prospective buyers what their in for.
It should work, what've I got to lose but some of my free time? I really, really like
my truck and wouldn't trade it for a shovie
for my life. I should give the dealer credit
in advance though, they have been around since before I was born(33 next week) and have a very good reputation for
customer service. Hell,my dad bought the family wagon there,a 66 country sedan wagon. It was still running until my
mother gave it to my stepfather. To make
a long story short he bent the frame using
it to pull down a tree(dummy)and I think he sold it to buy god knows what, the car
disappeared a week or so later.
To say there has always been a ford or
two in the family is putting it mildly,so I'm
not giving up on them just yet.,,,,,,,,,,,,,98

Did you see the jay leno episode where
he held up a Firestone ad, The header read,,,,(EXPLOSION OF SAVINGS !) evidently a 4th of July sale.
