Door Rust
I have a 98 supercab 150, I clean the bottom of the doors about every third wash. I haven't
noticed any rust, bought it used with 24,000
miles. But there is a yellowish brown drip line that is dry coming out of the drain holes. Is this a possible previous fix? Looks
like some sort of sealer that was used to seal
the door bottoms. Like I was saying, no rust at 43,000 miles but do have a crack in the
drivers door. I travel for living and have been given the run around by every dealer I take it to about the door crack. One told me that because I was from TX,I drove it offroad
and thats what caused them. It has never left
pavement since I have owned it! One also told
me that it was out of warranty(3/36) and there
was nothing they could do. I mentioned after
he went through his well rehearsed schpeal,
that I had purchased the extended warranty. He
just kind of shut up real quick and then after thinking for a minute, told me that I would have to find the TSB# myself if I wanted anything done about it. I promptly went home,
found it, called them back, and was told that
the number didn't exist and that it was no good!! WHAT THE HELL DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET THE THING FIXED!! does anyone have a solution?

Need some help. I will be going to the dealer tomorrow to see what can be done about the door crack and door rust. I am not very hopeful for the outcome since I am out of warranty. I have read the posts regarding these issues, but I need some clarification and pointers. I have several questions regarding fixing the door rust and crack issues if my attempt at the dealership fails....Any suggestions on how to eliminate the problems on my own will be greatly appreciated.
1) Is the door rust forming from the otherside of the panel and coming through??
(if that is the case that sucks bad)
2) If so, how do you fix a problem like that and not have it rust all the way through, eventually?? What would you spray in the breath hole to stop it???
3) If it is just surface rust, is some sandpaper, Ospho, and some touch-up paint all I need??
4) If I can't get the door crack fixed, how can I prevent the crack from getting any bigger and also prevent rust from forming?? How can I prevent it from getting worse?
Hopefully the dealership will come through...but just in case.......
Thanks for all your help...I love this site!!!!
