Thumbs up Got my signal mirrors replaced

Well I got my signal mirrors replaced this weekend, and I must say I'm very glad I did. The silver-backing on my signal mirrors was coming off. The mirrors looked like they had tiny black spots and lines on the surface, but it was from the back of the mirror. So I took it into the dealer where I got it and they ordered and replaced the mirrors with no trouble or hassle to me. And, wow what a difference. Every time I look into my mirrors now I can't believe it, it's crystal clear.

So anyone out there who has signal mirrors that are defective, I urge you to visit your dealer and have them replaced. I got new signal mirrors for free, it only cost me an hours worth of time to have them installed.

Had mine done about six months ago. This set seems to be holding up ok but, I'm going to keep an eye on them.

Yes, this new set appears better than the first, but I honestly can't remember if the first pair started out with minor defects or if they appeared over time.

Oh well, I got my fingers crossed. I figure if this pair goes bad I'll request they replace them with the 2000 signal mirrors. But I personally like the '99 design better, so I'm hoping it won't come to that.

I had mine replaced about 6 months ago and it looked great for about 3 months and guess what, it started again. I'm going to tke them both back again and get them replaced for the second time. It looks terrible, especially at night.

The original set did start to peel(?) after I'd had the truck about 3 months. I waited till they were 10 months old to have them replaced. This set has been on for 6 months and I haven't found any bad spots on them yet.
I've got to get the 'months' thing out of my mind and start thinking 'miles'. I've got 23k on the truck and have had it 17 months. At this rate I'm going to be out of warranty after 26 months.

Question

I agree with you, how exactly do you describe the problem we had? I describe it as the silvering on the mirror was peeling off the back-side. Either way, I cannot for the life of me remember if my truck came that way or if the problem developed over time. I think it came that way, but got bad after about 3 months or so. It took me 13 months before I got mine replaced. But you can bet I'm going to watch these new ones closely.

Wow you're putting on those miles. I average right at 1,000 miles a month. My truck is now 14 months old (or should I say 14,000 miles old). At this rate my warranty is perfectly balanced, 6 years or 75,000. Well technically that comes to 72,000 miles, so I have 3,000 miles to play with.

Yeah, I plan to watch them real closely. Raoul, have yours shown any sign of defect since you had them replaced? I figure if mine go bad again I'll just request they are replaced with a signal mirror off a 2000.

I am on my 3rd set for my 99 truck and the 2nd set for my wifes explorer. Muth just sends me replacement mirrors and I installed them myself. I sure would like to know why this keeps happening??

scott munczen, since it sounds like you're in direct contact with Muth, have you asked them why this is happening? Certainly Muth has got to know about the problem.

I did ask them this and they said we working on it. I told them I tried a experiment. That I cleaned my truck mirrors 3-4 times a week with glass cleaner, and on my wifes truck once a week. So my wifes were so bad you could hardly see out of them. Mine on the other hand were pretty clear, but you could still see some damage on them. I live in Ga were the acid rain is bad and I think that has something to do with it. I have to wash the trucks at least once a week or more to keep them from getting damaged.
