Another "BIG" door problem
I was washing my truck about a week ago, as I do every week, and I was doing a really detailed job on it this time and I noticed something really bad, rust. I always clean the door jams when I wash my truck and this time I was really getting in there good and I noticed on the bottom inside part of the door there is a seam that runs the whole length of the door and this seam had rust in it. I was able to get it all off from wiping it down real good but the drivers side was actually starting to bubble. I also noticed that the paint coverage in these spots was very poor (bad quality control at Ford)so I decided to bring it in and see if they would cover this. My truck is a 98 with 30 thousand on it. When I talked to the body guy about it ( same guy that fixed my door crack!) he said that he's seen a bunch come in like mine and Ford told them not to fix it, he seemed to think that they're trying to figure out why it's rusting and come up with a permanent fix. He also told me that this rust problem is just as big as the door crack problem. Ford told him to stop fixing the door cracks also. (good thing I got mine in when I did for that) Does anybody have more info on this, are your doors rusting too? Ya might want to crawl under your doors and check it out, especially those of you that live in the snow country.

It is really frustrating when you spend $21,000 (CDN) on a 1997 F150 XLT, only to notice that the bottom of all the doors are rusting and you are out of warranty.
I am really beginning to NOT like this.

Thank you for the information about that Zracer. I will have to check that out. What dealership did you bring your truck into? I live in Fridley and have been having Minar Ford do anything that I feel they should. You should bring up the point to the body shop guy that you do have a 7 year corrosion warranty on your truck, that covers any thing with the paint.....and it should be fixed for you.
Just another side note...we should try and get together sometime and get others with F150's in Minnesota to join us.

MNFORD99- I also go through Minar Ford. I spoke with Terry in the Body Shop about this problem. Minar has been pretty good about customer service so I'm sure if there is a fix for this they will take care of it. They took care of my door crack last fall and it turned out great. Thanks for the info on the 7 year corrosion warranty, I never knew about that! As far as getting together, I would love to get a bunch of Minnesota (and surrounding areas) people together. It's nice to see that more and more Minnesota people are on the site now. As you know there are a lot of Ford trucks in our area and it would be great to get people together and show off our trucks to eachother!

I'd be interested in hearing what dealer you're going through do. So far I've been dealing with Metropolitan Ford in Eden Prairie and they've been good about everything.

Yeah, I am glad that I could give that info to you about the corrison warranty. I have just had one bad streak with Minar, when I had that plage from the head oil leak. When it was, it was fine for a week, and then had #3 coil pack go out due to the way they routed the wire (melted it). Plus the service advisor that I had didn't know anything, or so it seemed.
I have direct contact with four other f150 drivers that I can think of off hand right now, so it is just a matter of getting a time set up, and where to meet. If you want, you can email me at MNFORD99@aol.com, and then we can get something set up....or do it on the events/happenings board.

Hey Zracer, well low and behold, I was washing my truck this weekend, and now it has developed a case of the "cracks" on the driver side door. Minar ford will be sure to hear about this one, and I won't take a simple patch and fix and then out the door. I have seen that guys have gotten new door assemblies from Ford, and that is what I want, as I know what the salt in Minnesota will do that the truck after a few years. It sucks, here I thought that I was in the clear without door cracks, and now they appear. Becoming more unhappy with Ford the more that I have the truck....guess I should have waited a few months and ordered a Super Duty instead.

Sorry to hear about your cracks. I had mine "fixed" but I've been keeping a very close eye on it to see if it starts in again. I realize that any new vehicle may have problems but what really ticks me off is that Ford seems like they are ignoring the problems. I'm not sure what to do to get a reaction from Ford, the media may work but is anybody going to cover it? Any ideas? I think we should all get together at our local Ford Dealerships and march in there together and demand an explanation. On a second note, I'd love to get all of us together, I'm busy this Sunday but maybe a little later in the month, like MNF150-1 said, we could meet at a park and BBQ or something along those lines. I live on Forest Lake so after I get my dock in we could meet up there and hang out next to the lake if ya want. I'm open for anything!
Well ZRracer, I stopped by Minar ford on 5-1-00, and talked to a guy in the body shop area, and he informed me that Ford has put all the cracks in the doors on hold until further notice. He told me as long as it is under warranty or noted at the dealership, for will fix it. I HOPE SO!!!! Oh well, looks like it is another waiting game just like when the head went out, and had to drive it with an oil leak for almost two months so that they could get parts.
Sounds like a good idea about getting together some weekend later on this month. It also sounds like a good idea to all go to one dealership and take it up with them...."safety in numbers, and then harder for them to pull stuff on us.

I hear ya MNFORD99! I was going to stop at Minar this week and see if anything changed but I guess I won't need to now! As long as they are aware of the problem and say they will fix it. I'll let you all know if I hear anything, thanks for the new info MNFORD99!
On the way back in from lunch today..I decided to check out the many F-150s sitting in our company parking lots. Out of 12 I looked at...9 had the darn door crack on the driver's side. I have noticed that the vast majority of these cracks are on the driver's side.
(Like I posted a week ago..9 out 0f 10 used F-150s sitting at our local dealer had the cracks)
I can't believe how many F-150s I am finding that are cracking. I quit using my windows in my 2000 many months ago..and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have even used my windows on my brand new, $20,000+ truck.

I see the cracks on the drivers side all the time. Just look at F-150's in parking lots or on the road, I always wonder if the owner is aware of the problem and what Ford is/isn't doing. Usually if I see somebody getting in their truck with a crack I'll stop them and talk to them about it.
Well, this is one area where I know a lot of people disagree, but I think that rustproofing is useful. No rust so far but the door was cracked, repaired and unfortunately it looks like it's starting to crack again since starting to use the windows again. I'm starting sending info to the media again, starting with Consumer Reports. Heck of a note when Consumer Reports recommends a vehicle that starts having door cracks. There's always, Dateline, 20-20 and a few more that might find this interesting if something doesn't happen fairly soon and cover everyone.
I hate to say it, but I think this is going to drag out until either the Media gets involved or every vehicle is out of warranty.
By the way, I had mine fixed at Saxon Ford, good job but I don't think anything is going to be permanent until Ford fixed the inherent design problem that's causing it in the first place.
