Sent info to Consumer Reports and Dateline yesterday. Going for a few more shortly. You might want to do the same thing. If the media gets enough email, maybe they'll do a little digging into Ford and their handling of design defective doors.

This is the kind of publicity that could blow up in Fords face in the way they have been handling it. Start writing, after all it's probably your door that's cracked also.

Thanks HCBPH. Do you know how I can talk to someone at Ford? I would also send an email to the media but I would like to try to talk to someone at Ford first. I'm sure they won't tell me much but I don't feel like I should complain to the media if I haven't really tried hard with Ford. If you or anybody else has numbers or email addresses for Ford please post, or, if you're not comfortable with posting them here then please email me; cschneider@tpt.org -HCBPH, could you email me with the addresses of the different media people you contacted? Thanks a lot!! -Still love my F-150!!!!

I called the FORD customer service number yesterday and voiced my concern about all of the door cracks I have been seeing lately. I mentioned that 9 out of 10 used 97+ F-150s at my local dealer, Freeway Ford, had the door crack. I also mentioned that I have not been using my windows on my brand new truck because of the fear it will eventually crack my doors. They entered my concerns under my name and VIN number...with appologies.

Just before lunch today, my local FORD dealer called me at work concerning this matter and stated that FORD had contacted them. They were "looking into this problem and would provide any information to me about a fix as soon as it becomes available". I do not trust this dealership from past experiences and will not buy from them..but it was nice that they called me anyway.

It certainly can't hurt to call the Customer Service Center and express your concerns about this.

Here's one you might want to try:

Stacey Koplin
KMSP Consumer Action Team http://www.kmsp.com/home/consumeraction/
skoplin@kmsp.com

It's the channel 9 (Minneapolis for those that aren't from this area) consumer action line. Can also get to it via www.kmsp.com and click on Consumer Action. You need to fill out some stuff, but that's how I got my door fixed the first time. I haven't gone back to them yet, I've been working the more 'national' media first. Consumer Reports said they forwarded it to the Auto-Test and Editorial staff. Got a bot response from dateline so far.

One address was http://www.consumerreports.org/, another (I think was) www.dateline.com and used the talkback option to send them mail. No company likes negative press, so if you want to build a fire to get someone moving, here's two places to start.

Couple of other addresses are www.autosafety.org, www.nhsta.dot.gov and anyone else that will listen.

I think if some of these places (Consumer Reports, Dateline, etc) get more than a 'few' emails, there's a much better chance of getting their attention (read that to mean they may look into it). That's the kind of national attention I think we need to get some serious attention from Ford on this. Why should we pay to repair something that was designed incorrectly in the first place, regardless of mileage.

Start making waves and get the word out. If not, then we're going have to pay for it ourselves when the original warranty runs out.

FWIW - This whole issue got me curious about the relative frequency of the door crack problem, so I went to the closest Ford dealer over lunch today (Downer's Grove, IL). Of the nine used F150s they had on the lot, seven had the door cracks. That's a 78% defect rate!!! Not exactly 6-sigma, guys. No thanks, Ford.

FYI: My wife and I have been considering buying a new Ford F150 Supercab or Supercrew. This thread has really opened our eyes! Thank you so very much.

regards,
GW, in Lombard, IL

G Wilhelm,

You will be OK if you buy the Supercrew version...they used a different design for the doors to correct the serious design flaw in the regular F-150. It is more like the SUV door.

The more people that know about this and complain...the better off we will all be! FORD has had a reasonable amount of time to fix this problem....yet they keep producing defective doors and have yet to offer a fix for the millions of trucks already on the road.

Zr& who ever else....
Stopped by Midway for last night just to take a look around, and out of 14 trucks, 11 of them had door cracks and 1 of them had been fixed with bondo, and rewelded. It is so much not a lot of fun to see that many trucks with problems, and now my buddies wonder when their door cracks are going to start to invade their pride and joy!!!!! Well I am going to contact Channel 5 news and see what they have to say about it. I will keep you guys all posted. Once agian, there is safety in numbers, so any help would be great. Thanks a lot and lets keep looking at places for door cracks as more evidence.

MNFORD99 & HCBPH, I think the way you guys have suggested approaching this is the best way. I'm going to stop by as many Ford dealers as I can and take pictures of these door cracks and door rust problems. I'll send an email to KSTP 5 also. It's gotta raise their suspicion if they hear it from more than 1 person. I've also heard that Channel 9 has something setup for people like us. I'll send them an email also. Also, I'd love to get a Minnesota F-150 thing together but I'm pretty much booked through the rest of May, busy time of year, plus I'm in a wedding at the end of the month, I'd much rather get together with a bunch of F-150 people!!!

Anyone that gets any type of a reply from anywhere, please post response, as then we have something that others can go off of. I hope that something comes of this, but more than likely it will just get tossed aside, but you never know. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed...

Any of you from the Minnesota area know where Hudson Wisconsin is? 17 miles from good ol' Minneapolis/St. Paul...right on the St. Croix river (on the 'good side' of the river ). I lived there for many years and it is good to hear about channel 5/9 news and the familiar dealership names.

GO TWINS/VIKES!!!

What is the name we called you...mud-ducks??

I wrote www.blueovalnews.com about the door cracks and Lane Robert contacted me for a picture of my door crack.

He said that they know about the problem and they want to write an article about it. So be sure and write Lane and let him know that you too have the dreaded door crack.

If you have a picture of the door crack send it along to the following address:

Lane Robert

Sean
