Another Xm Install Question

As many of you know, I've had XM installed in my King Ranch. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

I chose to go with the Pioneer FM modulator unit so that I could keep the stock head unit and changer (and save a few bucks).

My question. Where can I mount this display? I'm **NOT** going to cut on the dash or anywhere else and thus, anywhere where it may be mounted will require space for velcro or something similar.

SUGGESTIONS?!

Right now I have it coming up through my center console and laying above the cupholders on the console. I'm basically using it as a wired remote but, inevidably, it's going to get scratched up, a ding, and look like crap and thus, I don't want to leave it there.

HEEEEEEEEELP!

Thanks folks....

My 2¢

You can build a little wooden deack inside your console and cover it with black material so your controls will be inside the box and looks Stock but you can change it by opening your console and it would look decent without really cutting anything.

Yeah, I thought about inside the console. Just kind of a hassle to get to the controls to change channels.

I would like to have it somewhere 'up' so that I can reach the controls without having to continously look down (I dread the thought of me rear-ending someone because of XM). I thought about between the dash cupholder flip down door for the cig lighter. What do you all think? Any other thoughts....

HELP!!!

hmm.. if you have an overhead console, how about using double-sided foam tape to mount it to the garage door opener hatch, or even in the sunglass holder swing-down compartment?

Sunroof. Won't work. I did think about that however....

Anyone else have a modulated XM or CD setup? Where do you have the controls? I'd smack my momma for a wireless remote for this thing but, to my knowledge, it's not available.

HELLLLLLP!

hmph sunroof... ok. well, other than what ascii said, how good are you with fiberglass? you might be able to make a cover or flush mount where it is now... right behind the cupholders.

He wants it more out of the way so it doesnt get scratched so the fiberglassing where it is now wouldnt work unless he made a lid for it to conseal it while he wasnt using it i think what he is trying to do is make it like i want to if you have to take it back down to stock you can and wont have to leave anything behind. I could be wrong but thats what im gathering by the i dont want to cut anything.

I was thinking of a modular "plug" that would be removeable. hmm... too bad b/c cutting can be half the fun!

rock i feel for you. that is one reason i did not get the modulated version. you may want to investigate a bracket type install similar to those brackets that hold cell phones.

my pics of XM

did yours not come with the above featured bracket? This may sound ghetto, but how about a little velcro to attach it to your dash?

Yeah, I have the bracket but, I DO NOT WANT TO CUT anything on my dash etc. I don't mind the look of just the controls being out by theirself but, there's simply NO WHERE to mount it. F150agogo, I'm second guessing myself on having gone with the modulated unit now. I just didn't want to fork out the bux for the new HU. *shrugs*

I don't know what I'm going to do. I'd like to have it mounted somewhere that I have a more 'heads up' look at the display. (i.e. somewhere around the existing HU) but, there's just not a good place for it.

Heck, I don't know... I'll figure out something.

someone else had mounted theirs on the gauge cluster by where the gear shift indicator was. Their problem was they could not see what gear it was in when in reverse... of course you would know that when your heading that direction.

ummm... you could always upgrade?

Yeah, I'm leaning towards replacing the HU now. It's really upsetting. I didn't ever expect to encounter this problem.

Tell me this. What would I have to purchase (other than the HU) to keep my XM operational?

Keep in mind I have the Pioneer modulated unit (i.e. brain box, modulator, wired remote). Would I have to buy a new brain box?

Also, anyone have links to suggested units that I could use? I was surfing ebay last night looking at a couple of SONY HUs but, would they work with the Pioneer brain box? I'd really like to have a wireless remote control.... I had one with my old modulated Kenwood 10-disc changer and that thing was god's gift to convinence.

Thanks folks.
