You might like the deh-7400MP

plays mp3s , cd , cd-r , cd-rw , and is xm ready im pretty sure that all you have to do is connect the "brain" to the hu probably the same way you connected it to the factory unit.

Yeah, that looks like a sweet HU.

How much do you think I could sell my Factory Deck (AM/FM/CASS) and Factory Changer for? Wonder if I could offset the price of the new deck.

Also, installing something like this? Is it a bitch?

XM RADIO

You actually have good choices if you decide to go with an XM ready H/U all you have to do is remove te FM modulator its a small siver box with the antenna wire attached, run that wire to to the new H/U remove your display unit from the old H/U and u will be good to go! Save the display unit though!

Very easy install and check ebay for pricing they have these unit on there all the time i saw a factory cd player go for around $120

so tape and change should go for more i would guess but i dont know for sure.

i got my kit from Circuit City they also sell wiring harnesses so you dont have to splice a single wire =]

rock, from what I can tell if you stick w/the pioneer brand, the TRUE XM tuner is different from the modulated [FM] XM tuner. Looks like you need another XM tuner to connect to your [new to be] head unit.

If I were you, and driving a King Ranch, I'd sell the whole thing and get the TRUE XM Tuner and Headunit. Personally I like the line Alpine better.

Does anybody own this Pioneer DEH-P7400MP? Pictures! I'd really like to see some pics of the unit installed. I have a little hesitation about a silver deck in my truck. Also, what color is it backlit. (okay, in case you didn't notice, I'm ****. LOL!)

They're all over ebay and it looks like I could pick one up fairly reasonable. I guess I could pick up a mounting kit just about anywhere that does installs?

What kits do you guys recomend? I want it to look VERY VERY professional.

From the sounds of Shawn, I shouldn't have any problems at all installing this little booger. I've never done an install of this nature EVER. I don't have many hesitations about removing that bezel from my dash but, I have some when it comes to the wiring. I didn't do my XM install and I'm not 110% sure where everything was run.

Will the modulator be right behind my HU? I know where my brain box and, of course, the display unit is mounted and how the display unit wire is run.

Can I use a Pioneer Brain Box and purchase an Alpine or Sony HU or are they proprietary?

Any more insight guys? Ascii, Shawn, F150aGoGo, Ruune... thank you guys. I sincerely appreciate it.

i dont have the 7400 i have the 6400 i cant play mp3's =[ but i will get the 7400mp you can get the wires , the install kit and probably some pointers from C City. Just go into the install bay and start shootin the sh*t act like you know what you talkin about and you will learn more than you know already. Generally they toss some crap out to make it look like they are gods of installs but just toss sh*t back at them E.G. you wanna know about the plugs go up to them and say " I heard you can put the pioneer box and cable into a sony" there answer will be either " Yes you can because blah blah blah " or " No who told you that" but im just guessing, also dont talk to the ****** on the floor some of my friends work the floor in car audio and i know more than they do. Talk to the installers they should know these units inside out and can most likely tell you hey this one is crap comes back all the time. But that doesnt mean alot since everyone tells me Pioneer is crap but i have never had any problems i like alpine pioneer eclipse and the OLD sony's kenwood car audio sucks imho. In the end its all personal preferance.

Pioneer Deh-7400mp specs
MP3 & CD-R/W playback • detachable fold-down face • Organic EL display • 22 watts RMS x 4 • MOSFET50 • Supertuner III • XM Satellite radio-ready • Easy EQ • Sound Focus EQ • optional AUX input • remote • changer control

It's just like mine only it plays mp3's and the color is dark grey its not bad at all

Now, I'm not 110% sure how much I trust all the folks at Crutchfield but, I just called and picked three different people's brains there. Each told me that I could utilize the tuner (brain box) that I have with my modulated unit for use with an XM ready HU. The only thing I was told that I'd need (and this was by two of the three salesfolk) was a new IP Bus cable.

Any insight? Please don't hesitate to answer the other questions in the last post too! I need all the help I can get here.

I like the idea about going with Crutchfield on this deal too. Sure, it's more $ but, I'm going to get the kit, the harnesses, the stereo removal tool and directions. The directions (with my knowledge of stereo installation) would probably be worth their weight in gold.

I'm nervous and excited all at once about this....

Dont buy anything yet except the cable they say you need i dont know about that but give me a day or so and ill find the best deal online for that stereo and i will give you as much detail into the install as possible im the same way you are i have to be 100 % about things and know all about it the pros and cons before i buy its a curse =[ but i will type out at work tomorrow some instructions on how to get the system out *i used a coat hangar to get the stereo out* but you might wanna spend the 5 bucks or less for the tools for the factory stereo removal it is very very simple my truck was the most simple install of a radio i have ever done. I remember on my last truck (1987 toyota P/U ) i installed my stereo at 1 am and had to do some filing cause it was about a half inch 2 small and i had to hard wire it all illuminate to illuminate i enjoy this stuff. but you need 2 harness's 1 for the f series truck and the other for the pioneer hu i might have the part numbers or sku numbers still ill look later tonight if i do ill post them tomorrow.

later....

Rock, thats the fun of it... modifying these trucks...

worse case you plug into the wrong thing and blow your fuses, or crack your dash, screw up the ecm, and go nuts... all in all plenty of fun - and not a bad days work...

when you done with this... think about the chip!!!

Rockpick,

I also have a King Ranch like your's and didn't want to cut up my dash when I got my XM. I'm a retailer who sells XM so they sent me the same unit that you have at no charge and free service for a while. Because everything was free I just had to get it hooked up. Solution for me was to get a universal Radar Detector mount, the kind with the flat surface and 3 small suction cups. I mounted it up close to the top of the windshield in the left corner. I can see it clearly and is out of the way. Real clean install, easy to remove if I have to and no marking or cutting up. I used a saw and cut off the excess length of the mounting surface, smoothed it off with a Dremmel and painted it with a little Black enamel.

If you're still wanting to mount this, you can e-mail me for better details.

By the way I'm not a tinkerer, so this was quick and easy...cheap too!

Thanks for the idea King. Sounds pretty simple and painless...

I'm not sure though... I think I'm sold on the idea of a new HU now.

You all have any idea what my Factory HU (am/fm/cass) and factory changer might bring?

f**king page logged me out i had like 2 pages of install crap typed out and rather than do it all again ill point you to a page that will help you out probably alot more that my instructions anyway click here but again any questions you need help with post here and i will answer to the best of my ability and my hu install kit is called a metra or something and go to CCity and ask them for the universal pioneer harness and the 2002 ford harness they snap into each other. Then when you get to the instal there is a grey and a black head platic end on the factory harness you will only used the black one if memory serves me correctly. CCity should probably have all this stuff. Ill look around for a place to find the stereo online .
the metal bracket that comes with the stereo make sure it is securely mounted so it doesnt slop around in there.
