CB power supply

Hi guys, I have a 2005 F-150 and I've installed a CB radio in it. I need to run power to it from the battery, but dont know what the best way to do that is. Esp how to get the wire into the cab. I'm mechanicly inclined, but I dont acually work on cars and trucks, so I figured I should ask some pros how to do this.

I normally will just use a fuse tap on a alway on fuse circuit and ground to a the chassis some where close to the radio.

Ok thanks, I'll try that. So long as it solves the distortion noise and the whining from the fuel pump.

show us where and how you are mounting the CB and we can suggest close buy power points that are easy to get to.

Agreed, the other thing is where are you running your coax for the antenna because that may also be part of your problems. You may also have to invest in some better shielded coax to help eliminate the problem and you could also have a ground loop causing the whining.

Connect the radios power cables directly to the battery. If you use any other power point, you WILL experience more noise from the electrical system. Also run a ground wire from the chassis of the radio to the frame of the vehicle. Run another ground wire from the base of the antenna mount to the frame of the vehicle. Do this and you will be happy with your equipment.

Run the power wire directly to the battery. Under your dash on the firewall near the steering shaft should be a rubber "knock out" grommet. You can run your wires through there(after you cut a small hole in it). If you mount your antenna in the bed, pull the plastic threshold up in your door opening and run the coax under the carpet. There should be another grommet in the wire channel under the threshhold cover that you can poke the coax thru.
