Here's a good place for an OEM 6 disc - http://www.oem-auto-accessory.com/

I'm very happy with them, bought my 6 disc MP3 headunit there.

Bought a Hi-Lo converter, a small Alpine 250 watt amp, and an 8" Punch subwoofer for less than $300. Sounds good, only took a little space under the back seat, and no one knows I've got anything worth stealing. I use the factory door speakers, and building a sealed plywood box didn't take longer than an afternoon.

My next mod is going to be this so I can make use of the empty AUX button on that radio ...

Good info! I already have the 6disc in dash unit. Just wanting to add a little bass and was hoping I didn't have to add door speakers to make it sound OK.

You don't have to do any other mods to add a sub. It's an improvement from what you have now and you can always add other components later when you can afford them. What I've done I sort of did a little at a time, albeit a short period of time. It's by far a competition system, but it puts a smile on my face.

And if my XLT doesn't have a harness already under the carpet in the back under the seat is there some reason I can't get a audio store to run the wiring to a new stock box/amp?

Just sent you a pm
You can get the connectors off ebay. If your handy get the wire diagram and run them yourself to save some $ and time. If not im sure an audi shop would be able to do it

Not at all. Not having the harness gives you problems with the factory subwoofer. Not to mention, you need a different radio to operate it. I think I mentioned before that with a Metra blue tooth harness you can put any sub/amp combination in the back of your truck, without hacking up your wiring harness. The Saleen sub came with its own wiring harness and the amp was internal.

SO, if I don't have the audiophile radio then the factory 8" sub won't work on it?

UUGH, I love doing things to my truck but electronics **** me off!

No, you have to have an audiophile head unit with that correct inputs for the sub harness.

By the time you spend all that money on the HU, the harness, and the amp/sub, you could probably have bought a better sounding aftermarket setup.

If you are seeking good sound, installing stock equipment is the LAST thing you want to do.

I have the head unit as well. I agree with the others better sound go aftermarket. The audiophile suited me fine when I had my 06 served its purpose.

Then why bother wasting time and money to upgrade?

As others said, check your H/U to see if you have a Sub out line. Then check to see if you have the correct wiring.

The stock sub isn't all that great, and if you do end up putting one in it won't be long until you want to swap it out for something else. The stock sub is 8" and rated at 90w, power provided by a small, attached amp.

I dumped all my stock audiophile stuff and replace it with JL pieces. 100x better than stock.
