Post Sony ES CDX-M650

I just put this receiver in and it definitely sounds cleaner than the OEM unit. I thought the remote was a bit gimmicky until I used it - it's pretty convenient.

My question for anyone who has this deck(or a deck like this one) is do you get sick of the flashing graphics? It might get a bit old. I suppose I could RTFM but I didn't immediately notice a way to tone the light show down. Thanks

BTW I put 2 pairs of Polk EX572a's in previously. Oh and don't let your dog stand on the mounting kit. It snaps pretty easily until you have it in the dash(the kit, not the dog)

Cool

Check you owners manual. There is a way to turn off the graphics. I don't remember exactly how, right now. I guess I've gotten used to mine since they don't really bother me.

I like the remote, too. I can keep it within arms reach and not be reaching for the radio or looking away from the road while adjusting it.

I have the 600. You can turn the graphics off with the menu function. Actually, I wish I had never gotten mine. It skips ridiculously much and I hate it when the cd gets to the end and you can't go to track one, you have to listen to the song or eject the cd. Also, when you get to the no.6 selection an the presets for the radio it goes to FM2 no.1 instead of going to FM1 no.1. Now... i'll get off my soapbox and continue surfing.

I though it did the last track thing to me because I was using burned CDs. What you can do is hold the skip/advance button down to fast-forward to the end of the track, and the player will go back to the 1st track.

I don't know if the skipping is inherant to your deck, or if it's just a fluke. Mine doesn't skip unless I'm on a washboard road going fairly fast. Make sure the back of the unit is supported somehow. If it's not supported and free to vibrate, this is where your skipping is coming from.

I saw where someone put rubber under the unit to help.

You're right - someone around here took the rubber mount(it's about an inch long and secures the unit into a female connection at the back of the dash)off the back of the OEM unit and put it on the new head unit. Mine threaded onto a bolt sticking out of the back of the OEM unit. I need to remove that bolt and put it on the new unit or just get another one. I could be wrong but the thread size seems to be the same size as an available mounting nut at the back of the Sony unit.

I haven't permanently mounted mine yet because of a broken trim piece(see above). I know I haven't gone bouncing around yet, but no CD skips so far.

I'm really happy with the sound of the unit and the Polks. MUCH better than what came in the truck. Enough clean sound for those inside the truck, anyway.

Unhappy

I just pulled my 750 out at lunch time. you will get used to the light show. Mine just sounded way to processed. and I wasn't impressed at all. The EQ was Ok but nothing great. The DSO total fricked up the sound. The built in crossover was a good effort. I think that they just tried to push too much stuff into it. The sound quality really.....well it sucked. I went back to my CDX-C680 and it sounds so much better. Not a 4volt pre-out, but not perminent either. I will probably end up going with a 910. All in all I'm not that impressed with the whole Xplod series, they are not as clean as the older H/U's IMO. The worst part is that the 750's are an ES model. Supposed to be the best. So much for that. Ok I'll shut up now. Bye.
