What's left to do that's gonna take a couple more weeks?

BTW, that setup looks very clean. Good job.

Hey Dexx....

well, I just need to install the mids + highs, and the deck, and wire everything up....... but I need to 'buy' all of the wiring, and RCA's first, and I'm pretty tight on cash. Just had another job pop up yesterday, but it will still be a couple weeks before I get paid for it.....

But I've been working on this for close to 6 months.... what's a couple more weeks ? .....uh... and eternity ? :-)

Peace,
Fish

Hey modea....

What I said
Styx, the funny thing is, I planned to remove the rear seats, the same day I was buying it, just because rear seats in a truck {for me} are completely worthless. But it would be at least 2 more months, before I even got the idea for an aftermarket stereo system.
Sure, I've thought about how I could easily fit four 15"s with all of the space I have....... and 20 years ago, I might have. But I'm thinking two 12"s with 350wts RMS each, two 8"s with 111 wts each, and a set of component mids/highs with 111 wts RMS each should be plenty for a nice, daily driving SQ setup. And, I still have lots of room back there for groceries, an icebox, camera gear... whatever.
+ I can hop over into the passenger seat and recline it all the way back, and sleep in it if neccessary.
Peace,
Fish

Hey mSaLLe....

Yea...... but not right from the start... for two reasons. 1) because I'm running out of time, to start saving money for my annual fishing vacation, and 2) I'm thinking that by listening to it without deadening to begin with, I'll be able to see how much difference it makes when I do add it.

I am thinking about blocking those rear wall vents though. Not yet sure how though ? For me it might be easier from the outside, and I don't think it would make any difference. Blocked, is blocked.

Hmmmm....
Peace,
Fish

i like that, real clean looking. as stated above, if i were to take out my back seat i would probably go real big, but i respect your respect for SQ, haha
however, i would say that you would probably be better off NOT squeezing those subs into a minimal space

suggestion:
since your terminals are exposed, do something creative/cool looking
for example, i saw an install where they used 2 copper rods bended and polished to connect the amp to the subs
ill look for the link,

k. the server is down right now, but ill get it up later

Thanks again guys, and BTW.....

It's finished :-) {well, I mean, it's up and running. I still want to deaden the heck out of my doors.... probably eventually add a sound proccessor.... permanently mount my 8" mid-bass drivers in the lower front doors, etc, etc}

But anyway, it freaking rocks ! It's just SOOO freaking musical ! The bass hits SO freaking deep (I mean, below human hearing range 'deep'... if that's what the recording includes) but with incredible tightness ! I mean zero slop, or overhang.
Then, blending in right above the 12"s (in the frequency range) the 8"s have that sharp snap, that's just like icing on the cake :-)

Love my Polk Audio components too.

Hey C. Whammy, believe it or not, eD recommends 1.5 cubes for each of my 12"s, and tuned to 30hz, for optimum sound quality, and so that's "exactly" what I gave them.

I know I could have gone with 2 to 2.5 cubes for each sub, and tuned them to 38hz to 45hz, and they would have been WAAAY louder.... but if that were the kind of system I was working on (max SPL), I would not have went with a balanced, 5ch amp, nor any mid-bass drivers.... or for that matter, 2, 12" subs. Instead, I'd have run 4, 15"s, a HUGE mono amp, an oversized box, and high tuning.

And don't get me wrong, I think those kinds of setups are fun too...... just not practical, for a truck I will be making lots of 200 to 300 mile per day, round trips in. I just wanted a sufficiently powerful daily driver, SQ setup. And now I have one :-)

Thanks again for all the comps guys :-)

Peace,
Fish

Hey Thenewbreed....

for now, my mid-bass drivers are in temporary, sealed, 'testing' enclosures, of .25cubes each, and polyfilled. I just have these kind of floating around right now.... 1 on top of my sub enclosure in the back left, and the other on the floor on the right corner.

Interestingly, when I first fired everything up, they were pointing forward, and consequentally, they were "really directional" (totally pulled the stage to the back). So, I then flipped them on their backs, pointed straight up at the ceiling, so the sound could disperse better, instead of coming straight at me. That helped a TON ! Now the only time I noticed frequencies coming from the back is if I turn my head around and lean towards the back.

Either way, I just wanted to see how they would sound in .25 cubes, grabbing from 80hz to 250hz..... and they sound great :-) Pass !

Now I know it will be worth ripping my doors all apart to integrate them.... but now it's fishing time, so that will probably have to wait until fall, along with all of my sound deadening.

Peace,
Fish
