Connecting IPOD to stock 6-Disc stereo

I just got an IPOD Touch for Christmas and I am trying to figure out how I can use this in my truck without using an FM modulator.

I have a 2004 Lariat with the audiophile 6-disc stereo.

Should I use the P.I.E. FRD04-Aux input converter with a P.I.E. Uni-Pod auxiliary iPOD interface?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Check Crutchfield? I have an 06 fx4 with that radio. The unit is like $140 I think and it lets the radio operate the Ipod, but eliminates the CD or Sat radio if I read it correct. Im thinking about that. I got an Itouch also for Christmas.

I heard the iTouch doesn't stream its music well through iPod connect cables. But I could be wrong.

I'd go with the Brandmotion adapter. I put one in my 06 Lariat. It allows me to 'hide' the ipod in the glove box and run all the controls thru my stock radio. They have them for all models - the 6cD, single CD, sat or non sat. It's a very easy install and works great.

I would like to get a Brandmotion but they don't work on the '04 F150's. So I would have to get a 2005 or newer head unit first.

I just ordered a UPAC-frd24 off bestbuy online for $110. The guy at Custom Sounds recommended it over the PIE however they were selling it for $179.99. It comes with everything you need and easy to install, plug and play. We'll see how it works when I get it. He said it charges the IPOD and you have total control through your head unit.

Here's a PDF file I found for the UPAC-frd24. Very helpful information.

I too got a Touch for Christmas and I have looked for something to install in my 05 F150 w/ Single CD. I really like the Brandmotion for the simple fact I can control it from the radio instead of using the Ipod. However looking over Brandmotions site it says it is not compatible with the 2005, is this true? Don't mean to hijack the thread but I don't want someone to buy something that won't work in their vehicle. Crutchfield has listed that it will work in an '05.

So I got the upac-frd24 installed and am very happy with it. I have full control over my ipod through the stock head unit. The only thing I don't have is charging capability which so far has not been an issue because you don't want to leave the iod in your truck 24 7 due to temerature ruining it. It will charge many ipod models, however I have the 4th geeration nano which it does not support but it will support 1,2 & 3 generation. If you visit the upac site it will list the ipods it will not charge. Overall for $110 I think it is a very good buy and a simple install, about 15 minutes.
