I run (well, until the radio is fixed, ran) a 48" Firestick with a custom mount, 4"x1"x1/16" angle about 4" long with a 1/2" hole cut in it, over the bed rail at the first stake pocket so the antenna/coax connection is hidden in the stake pocket and the weight of the antenna sits on the plastic rail cap. I used self tapping screws to secure the 1" side to the bedrail. Brought the coax out through one of the holes in the pocket, over the top of the bed, in through the back door, under the sill plate to the front seat, under the front seat to in front of the center seat where the radio was mounted.

I'll post pics later, gotta find 'em first

Wake Up Old Thread!! haha
Ok I just mounted mine to my toolbox.

How much should it stick up over the cab??

I was considering taking back the 4ft I have now and getting the longer one.

The box is grounded and it is a k40 antenna

The higher up the antenna is the better it will work, now there is a compromise such as hitting bridges and such..

I'm running a 102" stainless whip mounted on the toolbox in the bed and it will hit low bridges and some tree branches......no big deal !! LOL

Does anyone have any suggestions about where to install one into a new King Ranch?

Any pictures of a KR CB installation?

Always, especially if one of the antennas take a really hard hit from a tree branch or low over hang.

Easiest way on something new is a toolbox. Unless you do a magnet mount

I have 2 antenna mounted on the bed. one is my cb and the other is my radio antenna. Newb question. What is a SWR? I need to get mine tuned properly(I want more range). Im getting a Couple of 5 ft firestiks here in a month or so to replace my 3 footers.

SWR stands for Standing Wave Ratio. Be careful on how tall of an antenna you get because if you go to tall you will be forever hitting branches, drive-through over hangs, and any other low obstruction you can think of that will shorten the life of the antenna.

Here is a pretty good explanation of SWR.
