remote start/alarm
remote start/alarm
so i am looking to install a remote start/alarm system. any suggestions??? i was looking into viper systems cuz everyone i know uses that brand. so just wondering whats a good product for the price?
Contact Travis at KCautosound. I bought a code alarm system from him and he preped it as well as providing detailed instructions and on the phone support. It made the install so much easier ~ I would not have had the patience to do all of the installation (and wire chasing) without his prep work and instructions. My truck now has a true alarm system, remote start and is customized to my preferences (ie. you hit the unlock button once and all doors unlock). Definitely worth $$ from my perspective.

I have the CompuStar 2WFM900-AS and love it. Really a good alarm and I can set the sensitivity as low or as high as I'd like. It is a dual shock so I get an alert and a notification on the LCD showing me where my truck is being tampered with prior to the actual alarm going off. Love the autostart feature as well, but honestly I don't use it all that often out here in Hawaii. I did use it alot in the summers back in MS to help cool off the truck before I got in it after work.

The CA670 has always been a great system. It is replaced now with the CA671 which is available Nov 26. I recently replaced my CA670 with the new SRT6700 system from Code with a 1 mile range. Worked out great. Put my old 670 on a buddy's truck yesterday. The advantage of the Code Alarm systems is that they will work with the keypad on the side of your door allowing you to arm/disarm the system with the keypad.

I just got a CA SRT 9000 from Travis and love this thing so far and will love it even more when I can get the remote to charge, it has dead batteries right now. So for now I'm using the spair remote and once I get the other one working I will be tinkering with all the options.

Lovethetide, did you install this alarm yourself?, cause I'm in the middle of installing and can''t figure out where the White/Blue (External start trigger) would connect too? I'm assuming it would go to the Pats override module(brown wire), but I'm using a direct D2D wire to connect the override module to the srt 9000 (brown port)
Also did you end up using the the Purple/white tach input wire?
everything else is working great, except for the remote start

I got the remote start to work, as it was related to programming the unit to recognize the D2D (DBI) port, but now the truck starts and only runs for 15 seconds before shutting down, and then reattemps to start for 15 sec and shuts down, continuing the same cycle? I have programmed the unit to run for 20 minutes
Also I have read that the tach input is not needed, and thus has not been connected and programmed in the unit not to look for it
any ideas?

You need to change the way the system reads vehicle voltage before starting. Here's how you do this.
1) Open door and turn ignition ON. Make sure your dome light is manually turned on using the switch on the dash.
2) I’ve found there is kind of a time limit on getting into programming mode on the elite systems. Make sure the dome light is on. As soon as you turn the key on press and hold the PROGRAM button for about 10 to 15 seconds until you here the horn honk and flash the parking lights 3 times. You will use the valet/programming button to advance through each option bank. You will then use the “STAR” button on the remote to scroll through the selections in each feature bank. The horn will honk and the parking lights will flash to indicate each feature. You will then use the transmitter’s LOCK button to change the desired feature. The LED will flash indicating the changed feature. PRESSING UNLOCK AT ANY POINT DURING THE PROGRAMMING WILL RETURN ALL THE SETTING TO DEFAULT FACTORY SETTINGS.
9) Press and release the PROGRAM button till you hear the horn honk 7 times.
12) Press and release the STAR button until you hear the horn honk 4 times. Press and release the LOCK button until you see the LED flash 2 times. You have just change the way the way the system sees the vehicles voltage. This is needed on the Ford engines. Otherwise the system will start and stop 3 times.
